What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My earliest memory connected to music would have to be watching my Dad rehearse in a beach shack with his surf rock band. I would have been about 8 years old at the time, thus learning how to play drums through him. As much as my father and I have our differences, I owe it all to him.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Since watching my dads band play at an early age, all I’ve ever wanted to do is play in a band. I’d take any chance to pick up an instrument at one of their rehearsals. When I was 13 or 14, I grew an obsession with heavy guitar music and lyrical poetry, to be specific… Black Sabbath, Nirvana and Tool. The obsession still exists.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

During my time trying to figure out how to represent myself musically, I have been under different stage names.. Hazel Dazel, Ash Strider and Skelter. I’m now at a point in my life where I want no confusion, so I’ll be rebranding once again to N.L Tynan. I feel I’m returning to who I am (Noah Lynch Tynan) and my music will be a true reflection of that, with no outside influence.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I’d describe my music as something like early 60s tunes, like the Beatles and The Kinks with a Big Muff fuzz.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I’ve learned that there is no end to learning the creative process. I used to try over-complicate songs, but I am not a prog rock professional. I guess I’m just trying to write my love/heartbreak poetry, and have it be heard over simple chords played with aggression, and the love of a fuzzed out guitar solo.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Guitars, Drums, Bass, My vocals, a good studio and a quality engineer.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Panda Bear of the animal collective. Noah Benjamin Lennox

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Surfing plays a huge part of my poetry, because to me there is nothing more freeing. Obviously it’s not all surfing. There is childhood trauma, heartbreaks, anger and sadness towards those who want to hurt and kill others. There are songs of hope and desires. I write because it’s my only way to say what I truly need to say.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I want to make young listeners feel that they can create and present their art with no judgment. The world needs more human made music, art, choreography, films and photography. I want my listeners to say to themselves “If he can do it, I can do it too! I’m going to play live and loud, record and release my music, and do it better than any AI bot that wants to strip the soul of the collective creation!” Word for word, say it like you mean it.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

No matter who hears it, if it’s a constant itch- I MUST release it.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I’d love to play at any outdoor festival with a good quality lineup. I feel the best time to play is when the sun is setting. SXSW or Reading would be a dream come true.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Ringo Starr- because he’d play the part so well

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

In 2026, I have an ambitious plan to record 30 new songs. That’ll keep me occupied for a while and hopefully my listeners will appreciate it once they are released.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I hope my listeners will discover something more about themselves, as I am just a working man, surfer and creative from Newcastle, Australia. So no matter what you do or where you are, if you have the uncontrollable urge to create, don’t let it all be in vain!

Thanks heaps, I hope y’all have a wonderful time listening and creating! Get obsessed!
