Introduction of the project

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My earliest musical memory goes back to when I was around 2–3 years old. I used to turn toy boxes upside down and use them as drums. A few boxes definitely didn’t survive that phase…

How did your passion for creating music begin?

The fascination for music was always there. I spent countless hours trying to replay songs I heard on the radio on piano or drums.

After school, it was always straight to the drum kit first, homework came second. Writing my own songs slowly became a natural part of that process over time.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

The ELÜX project is the result of a long phase of musical and personal self-discovery.

In 2017, I started a hard rock band together with two school friends, where I still play drums today. During my studies as an audio engineer, I also worked on various rock and metal projects with a fellow student, and some of those productions turned out really strong.

At the same time, I was never only focused on rock and metal. I also went through phases with hip-hop, pop and electronic music, and I’ve always been fascinated by the rise of the big DJs and electronic music culture.

Last year, I properly discovered the Drum’n’Bass scene for the first time — a genre that is currently experiencing a massive global rise. To be honest, I used to think DJing wasn’t “real music making”… until I discovered the famous Sub Focus 360° set on YouTube.

That moment completely changed my perspective. I instantly realised that the way Drum’n’Bass is produced and performed is something entirely different from the stereotypical image many people have of DJ culture.

What really hit me was how perfectly this music matched my own musical values. For me, Drum’n’Bass brings together every genre imaginable: from orchestral and emotional liquid tunes to melodic dancefloor tracks and heavy, almost metal-inspired neurofunk.

That was the moment I realised: I’ve finally found where I belong. That was the birth of ELÜX.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I’d describe it as fast, melodic and energetic dance music with an emotional core.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I constantly experience new processes and huge “aha” moments that change the way I work. But the biggest shift was learning to approach music production much more conceptually.

Back then, I would just open a blank session, create everything from scratch every time, use random sounds and constantly change my signal flow and workflow.

Today, I enter every production with a clear vision: Is this supposed to be an emotional track or a heavy party banger? My templates, effects and overall production structure are now much more consistent.

The biggest advantage of this structure is that you eventually learn when a track is truly finished. At a certain point, it doesn’t become better anymore, only different.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

I mainly work with Cubase alongside external plugins like Serum and ANA 2. I also use Splice samples, although mostly for drum loops or one-shot drum samples.

That said, I definitely prefer working with real musicians and vocalists whenever possible instead of relying only on samples.

I also love bringing real instruments into my productions — whether that’s live drums, piano, guitar or anything else. Recently, I even recorded parts of my drum hardware because the metallic sound fit perfectly into the beat.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

An absolute banger that’s blowing me away right now — both musically and production-wise — is “Lock It” by Flowidus & Loboski. Incredible track.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I think ELÜX and the music behind it are basically a mix of all the musical experiences I’ve had throughout my life.

Every phase and every genre shaped me and helped create the artist I am today. But at the same time, I’m convinced this journey is far from over and that I’ll continue evolving as an artist in the future.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

In a world that often feels chaotic right now, I simply want people to be able to switch off for a moment.

To dance, laugh, dream or forget everything around them for a while — whatever gives them a good time.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Insecurity holds you back. And comparing yourself too much to other artists only slows you down, just do your thing. If you like it some People will like it too…

There are thousands of excuses for why you shouldn’t release a song or why you shouldn’t play a certain gig. But especially in the early stages, the answer to opportunities should almost always be “yes”.

A song needs to be out in the world so people can actually hear it. That’s how you gain experience and build the confidence you need to keep going.

Even if the video you spent three hours filming and editing only gets 300 views, or if there are only three people standing in front of the DJ booth, don’t stop. Just keep moving forward.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Right now, it’s not even necessarily the huge main stages that attract me the most.

What excites me much more are places with incredible energy between the crowd and the artist — especially smaller events with around 50–300 people in unique locations.

But of course, I’d never say no to playing at DNB Allstars or Liquicity Festival someday.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Sub Focus is definitely very high on that list. But there are also many talented artists within the German-speaking music scene that I’d love to collaborate with one day.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

Right now, the most important thing for me is building a real connection with the people listening to my music and letting them become part of my world.

I’m not 100% sure yet what form that will take in the future, but that’s exactly what makes the journey exciting.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I hope people realise that ELÜX isn’t just another social media DJ stacking banger after banger with endless double and triple drops.

I want listeners to feel that there’s much more depth behind the music and the whole project than they might expect at first glance.
