Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Jasmine Elyse

I am currently working on my first full length album!
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I started playing the violin when I was 3 years old and have been ever since!
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It started during the lockdown era during covid and I picked up the guitar, learned a few chords and started writing music. It was an outlet for my emotions and a way to process what was going on in my life.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I am currently working on my first full album called “Blue Hour” and I co-wrote it with Sam Rothman. We have been playing music together the past couple of years and we started writing together. We eventually realized that we work so well together that we decided to write an album!
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
My sound is quite unique, I would say folk alternative and some songs also have french traditional influences as I am franco-manitoban.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music? I learned to play the electric guitar, bought a new guitar and wrote new songs with a
more edge alternative sound.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process? My notes app for my lyrics! I write all my lyrics in my notes app as well as on paper
sometimes.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I am loving the group Wild Rivers, especially their song Neon Stars.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision? My lyrics are very much influenced by personal experiences, relationships and feelings I
have. I like to take an emotion or feeling and develop it into a story that people can relate too.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work? I hope listeners can see themselves in my music, and feel like they are not alone in
feeling a specific way. I hope they can find comfort and joy listening to my music. What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
That nothing is given, you gotta work hard for what you want but that everything is possible and never give up!
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I would love to perform live at The Forum in Sydney Australia but also would love to play mainstage at the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why? Taylor Swift, she is an incredible songwriter and musician and her ability to tell such a
vivid story in a song is very inspiring for me.

me and my songs more than they know!
