Formula Indie Sessions – Interview with P.S.Y.C

P.S.Y.C. is currently working on a few singles and plotting the debut album.
Coming back from a decade hiatus to bring some sound back to drown all the noise in the world. Hydrate Hip Hop is the foundation. I’ll be planting seeds and trying to grow some trees.
- What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I’d have to say for me the earliest memory is when I was about 5 or maybe 6 years old. My grandmother had bought my older brother a Casio keyboard and he never played it. I picked it up one day and began just playing away. I was learning songs using all the tutorial functions. I was able to play all 100 songs on it within 2 years. I never had help or training nor classes.
2. How did your passion for creating music begin?
To be honest I just always loved music, the piano and writing songs. Easiest way to explain it is music is the language of the soul. When I became old enough to create I did anything in my power to do so. From like 11,12,13 I went to any shows I could and tried getting into any studio I could afford. I had times when the studio I was paying for stole all my masters. Others that flat out deleted all of my songs.
After paying a few places for a less than professional result. I decided I needed a home base. I’ve been in some large million dollar studios and I’ve recorded in the home setting. Once I was about 15 I began to build my own recording studio. My passion for creating music began to grow as well as the feeling of being free. Feeling of being in the moment as I create a song helped me to gain happiness, clarity, and peace in life.
3. What’s the story behind your current music project?
My current projects are a plethora of singles. I have about 5 or 6 in the works as of right now. I am working with an amazing Producer Austin Starchild more tba.
I have just released a single “Power Prayer” produced by Jake Angel Beats. He’s an amazing Billboard charting producer. I feel like it’s doing well as this is my first release in 10 years. Radio vibe with happy energetic sounds speaking on the power of prayer and moving through distractions and dis functions.
I Also released “Guardian Of Light” produced by E.Smitty another legendary producer. This is a more deep dive into the life around a gritty toned song with a simple bridge chorus.
4. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
P.S.Y.C.
abbreviated for
Pandemonium’s Scar Your Conscious
I’d say that the music I make is a blend of some deep spiritual truthfulness with harmonies & Hiphop. A blend of lyrical punchlines and melodies that are unique.
I don’t want to be confined to any box. I write, rap, sing, produce & I don’t want to sound like anyone else. I’m a musician singer/songwriter and I want to learn more and evolve. I’m on a journey of my own with the sound of an Original Soul. As I develop my sound further I plan to bring a west coast flavor. I have many styles with many elements to choose from as I feel what I create.
5. What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I learned to connect & collect my royalties and not allow someone to just handle it for me. I learned that most of the stuff people think they need they actually don’t, you can create an amazing sound with limited gear. Don’t ever let someone disrespect you in this industry, so many snakes find the saints. Maybe only a few but good people still exist. Who I work with changed how I make music, I had many jobs in many hands now I do everything.
6. What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I only use ProTools as far as my DAW but I have a piano that’s essential for sure. I use many plugins,I have mastered few. Honestly there’s so much new now as well. I can write a full song in about an hour, writing is my first passion. I’d love to be able to get locked in a studio for weeks again and just create.
7. Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Johnny Balik “I Need It” is a song that always gets me in a good vibe and state of mind. I listen to this song often. It cheers me up as well and gives me strength to do more when I feel I’ve done enough.
8. How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I guess in a way it has made me alter my path in music to be a more spiritual one. I was a writer/rapper, that’s all I wanted to do only that. Then I knew I wanted to build and have a place to record of my own. I needed to learn not just to record but to market & promote an artists also. I learned how to do so& many other things in my years in music. Then I needed to mix & master I learned for myself. Now I need a label but idk maybe I’ll do that myself also.
This industry is full of Demons and I refuse to work with many. My vision is now to bring some love and light back to life to make music that is raw, real, & authentic. No autotune mumble rap, I want to bring back some knowledge. The elements of Hip Hop, I want to Hydrate Hip Hop.
9. What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
The messages I hope to bring with my music are essential. I want to bring some light to the dark and dull world. I wish to promote family, love, light, & a vision of a future with freedom & family. I want my music to make people think to understand. To hear a song a feel how I felt when I made it. Each song has different vibes feels and emotions which can spark the spirit with sound. Help others feel a need to better themselves and help others around them.
I will bring back the message of HipHop which was born on honor, love, respect, and being a street preacher to help the next generation not hinder it.
I will never be talking about hoes & drugs or harming my brothers & sisters. When I say brothers & sisters I mean every single person walking the earth. I will deliver each song with all my abilities and I wish to grow with each new song I create.
10. What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Learn to do as much as you can and protect yourself every way you can. If your 100% independent learn the Biz. Make sure you copyright all of your songs. Make sure you register with a PRO,SoundExchange, MLC, Luminate, handle publishing. Do all of these things have accounts in your names linked to your bank accounts. Don’t let anyone collect for you if you’re Independent.
Beware of scams they are everywhere and now all the bots & ai agents it’s horrible just be careful.
Get a catalog and look into all real Sync Licensing opportunities.
11. What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
The Life Is Beautiful festival I have been to before it would be cool to perform there or a venue of that nature. To headline a festival is I’d imagine every artist major goal. The venue I’d like to perform at is the Hollywood Bowl. I went as a kid to see the Philharmonic Orchestra with my mother, I’d love to perform there someday.
12. If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I’m going to have to say Mac Miller & the main reasons why is he was a true musician. He created what he felt and open to the world with his inner demons. He also shows many times how to conquer difficulties and challenges. His music is timeless to me a modern Mozart. Powerful lyric with intention & I feel like we could create something to raise vibrations.
We could of made a song to spark the divine lost inside each of us.

14.Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I’d say the next chapter is releasing some great music that real people can relate to. Doing some sort of tour or large events very soon as well as getting a full merchandise line available. I’m working to get places for sync licensing know and learning all the needs and wants in industry. I’m also looking for who I want to feature with and who I’m going to be collaborating with.
15.What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That I’m just on a musical journey of discovery and connection. I know I will create with my full unapologetically self expressed soul. I will never be doing any gimmicky bs or any viral bs I’d rather make music. I will be trying to provide a more complete experience of some IRL content and incorporate more ways to meet new fans.
1Love & Respect
