What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Nikki: Crate digging at my grandmother’s. I got hooked on Motown.

Court: Dancing and listening to “UP!” by Shania Twain.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Nikki: I found a guitar in my grandmother’s closet when I was 8 and have been obsessed ever since.

Court: I don’t remember how or when it began exactly, just that I can’t remember a time where I didn’t have this uncontrollable and insatiable urge to write and document. The earliest I began to write songs probably started around the age of 8, which is also as far back as my first journal entires go.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

That’s a tough one to answer because this isn’t just a project to us. There’s no concept to it or mask to hide behind, it’s us laying everything we are out there.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Dreamy gut-punch pop. Washy and hazy, but hook-forward and energetic.

Nikki: What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

Trust your gut implicitly. If it sounds good, it is good.

Court: And don’t be too precious about the project – even after being so precise and careful about how we were doing things, we still had to let it go eventually.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

The only thing that’s really essential is Nikki’s guitar. He built it 4 years ago and ever since, all of our other guitars stay on the rack. Besides that, we’ll find inspiration in whatever is around us.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Nikki: I’m in a bit of a pop kick right now and am really enjoying In Color — they’ve been the soundtrack to the back half of our European tour.

Court: Been spinning some Bottle Rockets lately. We played a show with them while we were in the UK and they have some sneaky earworms.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

The “trust your gut” thing came from when [Nikki] was interning at a studio and came to realize that there aren’t any special tricks and that the ‘pros’ weren’t doing anything different than we were. Without that, we would probably still be chasing the ‘secret’ to writing and recording.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

It’s not so much that we want anyone to connect with a specific emotion per se, we hope that our fans will connect our music in their own way and connect our songs with their own memories.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Nikki: Whatever you’re doing, don’t let yourself get in the way. Be authentic and it will resonate.

Court: It’s taught me how to commit to something bigger than myself, and how to stick it through regardless of other people’s opinions and feelings about it.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Wembley & Osheaga. Area 506 in New Brunswick looks cool too.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

The 1975, I feel like Matty and George would bring something cool out of us that we might not otherwise be able to access.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

We’ve already started it and we’re excited to be able to create a record now having had the experience of already having done one. We get to go into this next one with a sense of self-confidence we didn’t have the first time around.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

It’s all right there in the music and the songs. Dig into them and you’ll get to know us pretty well.
