Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Rares and Joshua

RaresAndJoshuaNeon

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

One of our earliest memories is hearing cassette tapes and radio broadcasts during long car rides at night. There was something magical about music coming from old speakers while city lights passed by the window. That atmosphere still inspires us today.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

We were fascinated by how sounds could create emotion and visual imagination. Over time, that curiosity evolved into producing original tracks and building complete artistic worlds around the music.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Our project was born from two very different musical journeys that eventually met in the same creative vision. Rares originally came from the Eurodance scene before moving into a solo minimal electro direction, focusing on electronic textures, rhythm and atmospheric production. Joshua, on the other hand, was deeply connected to the rock and metal world, bringing a completely different emotional energy and musical perspective.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Imagine driving through a neon-lit city at night somewhere in  Europe, between memories of the past and dreams about the future. Our sound combines synth-driven melodies, atmospheric textures and emotional storytelling.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

We learned that simplicity can often be more powerful than complexity. A strong emotion or atmosphere matters more than technical perfection.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

We use a combination of vintage-inspired synthesizers, guitars, modern DAWs, analog textures and visual references from cinema and photography. The atmosphere surrounding a track is just as important as the music itself.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

We constantly explore underground electronic and indie scenes from across Europe.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Growing up in Eastern Europe gave us a unique perspective shaped by contrasts: old and new, optimism and nostalgia, technology and isolation. Those emotions naturally became part of our artistic identity.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

We hope listeners feel emotion, nostalgia and escapism. Our music is meant to feel like a soundtrack for personal memories, late-night thoughts and emotional journeys.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

One of the most important lessons music taught us is that longevity and trust matter more than hype. Many bands and projects disappear over time, so the fact that we stayed together creatively through different musical eras and personal changes already feels like a success to us

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Tomorrowland

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

There are many, but collaborating with artists like Daft Punk or Depeche Mode would be incredible.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

Our biggest dream for the next chapter is to release our second album as soon as possible. We want the new material to feel even more emotional and immersive while staying true to the atmosphere that defines our sound.

At the same time, we hope to reach wider international audiences, perform live more often and continue building meaningful connections with listeners who resonate with our music and visual identity.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

We hope people discover authenticity. Behind the retro aesthetics and electronic sounds, there are real emotions, memories and experiences that connect us all.
