Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Featherweight

DSC00172

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

This will vary from member to member, but a common theme among all of us would be seeing an incredible performer or hearing our first heavy metal album that started us down the path of being artists ourselves.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

A lot of us have just always played and been around music. It’s hard to say where it began because it kind of always has just been there.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

We are currently a reformation of a 10 year long project and the current version of the band has been together for 2 years. We are the brainchild of our frontman, Richie Dolbow. We are fully collaborative in writing new music as well as every other aspect of the band.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

We have strong, melodic choruses with lyrics you can relate to. Our instrumentals are technical while still being musical. We write riffs and breakdowns with the live show in mind. We want people to have a great time at our shows and also be able to sing along in the car.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

It’s hard to say one thing specifically. It’s more of the changes each member goes through both personally and professionally that have changed or evolved our songwriting.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Modern day recording tools have helped us a ton to put out professional recordings. Things like Logic, Neural DSP, and Sonobus have been instrumental in helping us to be able to write and bounce ideas off of each other. We can be in the same room or remote and still get it done.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Our friends in Dead Cassette, Seldom Fade, and Frameshifter.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

It has been everything. We write what we know and draw influence from the music we listen to and each other.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

Honest self reflection. Our lyrics are about our own lives and the lives of those around us for the most part.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Patience and work ethic. Things sometimes move slower than you want, but you have to be ready when the pace picks up.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Playing a festival like Sonic Temple would be pretty cool. At this point we just want to get out and meet more people all across the country and maybe beyond if the opportunity comes up.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

We all have our different favorites, but a dream collaboration would be with Holding Absence. They’re a phenomenal group and they’re an influence on us collectively.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? Featherweightmusic.com, YouTube, or your favorite streaming service.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

We just want to keep growing and getting out there to play shows. Shows are the best part about music.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

We are just regular people who love playing and writing music. We want people to come say hi at the merch table and have a blast at our shows.
