Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Lynn Winkle (Infinity)

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I remember listening to my dad’s band rehearsals that were held at our house when I was around 3 or 4 years old.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I started getting music ideas from my dreams and would keep a notebook by my bed for the lyrics and record on my phone for the melodies and just ran with it; I’ve always been a musician and a very creative person!
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I am in the process of creating a new music video for my original song “Hoedown”. I will dance and act in it and have created the dance choreography as well as wrote and recorded the song.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
No two songs sound alike. I would classify my vocals as clean and more of a pop sound. I create all kinds of dance music and like to incorporate horns as well as I play saxophone too!
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
To break down songs that I really like to get a deeper understanding of what attracts me to them.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I definitely utilize my notebook for song lyrics, phone to record melodies, I have utilized garage band in the past to create DJ tracks for new song ideas as well.
Which Indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Tom Misch – “It Runs Through Me”
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Growing up as a saxophonist has definitely influenced me in wanting to create songs that include a horn section. I am also a DJ and a dancer so create dance tracks as well that don’t incorporate a ton of live instrument recordings.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I like to create music that conveys positive messages in hopes that listeners feel happy after listening to my music. I also like to create songs that facilitate a deeper understanding of what this place (earth) is along with songs that are just fun.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
That it is powerful. You can alter or enhance your mood by the type of music you listen to, you can time travel instantly in your mind by being transported to memories that were created with songs, it can tell stories without any words.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Hollywood Bowl
