Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Magda Szczebiot

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
One of my earliest memories is being deeply moved by the sound of my grandma singing. She sang folk songs from the region where she was born.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It began through performance and improvisation. As I spent more time with the viola, I became fascinated not only with interpreting music, but also with creating my own melodies. Over time, that naturally led me to composition and production.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
My current project grows out of my love for cinematic, modern classical, and deeply emotional sound worlds. I wanted to create music that feels intimate and immersive at the same time.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
I would describe it as cinematic modern classical with an intimate, emotional core. It blends strings, piano, atmosphere, and spacious textures to create something reflective, melancholic, and deeply felt.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I learned that simplicity can be far more powerful than complexity. Once I stopped trying to fill every space, I started allowing silence, resonance, and subtle detail to become part of the composition itself.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Strings are at the heart of everything I do, especially the viola and violin. I also work with piano and synths, which are central to my composition and production process.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
A while ago I discovered Daniela Pes, an Italian singer, and also Lucrecia Dalt. I’ve also come back to Oneohtrix Point Never recently.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
My experiences as both a performer and composer have shaped the way I hear emotion, tension, and fragility in sound. Music became a way for me to transform inner experiences into something shared and meaningful.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I hope listeners feel moved, understood, and invited into a space of reflection. More than anything, I want the music to create an emotional connection, something tender, human, and true.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Music has taught me to trust sensitivity. What once felt like vulnerability became one of the most valuable parts of my artistic voice.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I would love to perform in a space that allows intimacy and full emotional immersion. A festival or hall dedicated to neoclassical, film, or contemporary music would be a dream.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with an artist who understands emotional depth and sonic space in a very refined way. Someone like Hildur Guðnadóttir or Jóhann Jóhannsson would be incredibly inspiring because of their sensitivity, restraint, and cinematic imagination.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website, Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
My dream is to continue growing as an artist while reaching more listeners who connect deeply with this kind of music. I would love to release more original work, collaborate on film projects, and build a lasting artistic world around my sound.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope they discover honesty in what I create. That behind the music there is someone searching for beauty, depth, and emotional truth. If listeners feel less alone through my work, that means everything to me.
