What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Rimov : My mom is a pianist, so I remember listening to her from a very young age. I think my oldest cristal clear memory is her improvising on an Aretha Franklin song I loved, “Think”.

Derdol : When I was a kid, we used to live in a lot of different countries because of my father’s work. Through the changes, one of the things that was constant and helped me feeling well was jazz music. My father also is a huge jazz fan, so we had a strong connexion to music together. Jazz was our safe place.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Derdol : I didn’t have any knowledge about music theory, but as soon as I grabbed a guitar, I tried to create my own melodies.

Rimov : I tried to be creative playing the drums as a kid, but the real shift was when I heard people rapping on old school funk instrumentals. I loved the mix and then around 14 wrote a lot of texts inspired by artists like Nas or A Tribe Called Quest.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Derdol & Rimov : Well we already had different projects together, including a hip hop big band with 9 people ! We already had a real creative bound at that time, we knew we could work very well together. But Amder Comet started when we realised that the time had come to create the duo project we dreamt of.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Rimov : The atmosphere is very dreamy, almost blurry at some points. It has its catchy and groovy phases, but also a lot of twists.

Derdol : Jazz chords, dreamy french texts. Poetry and enchantment.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

Rimov : When I realised that it was so difficult to change someone’s vision and way of working. And sometimes it’s better to collaborate with people that just share the vision, without spending to much time thinking about technical aspects.

Derdol : I once a discussion with an old jazz musician that helped me reshape the way I created things. He told me to focus more on silence.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Derdol : We create everything from scratch, but I would say that to create, we can already do a lot with a Rhodes keyboard, or even outside with an acoustic guitar and a trunk as a percussion instrument !

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Rimov : We recently discovered a swiss singer called Jo Mambo. We love the vibe !

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Rimov : Well it always does in a different a surprising way… of course you will create different things depending on the phase you go through…

Derdol : Otherwise you don’t create anymore, just a production without any soul !

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

Rimov : something going from the deeply personnal to the absolute universal, from the unicellular organism to the mistery of infinity. As humans you’re trapped in between… deal with it. That’s the message

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Derdol & Rimov : Montreux Jazz Festival, of course !

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Derdol : Maybe Miles… or MJ

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Rimov : Every streaming platform. Maybe we’ll release vinyls at some point.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

Derdol & Rimov : We’ll go to the swiss alps to create Phénomènes Vol II !

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

Rimov : As long as people discover and are touched by our creations, we’ll be happy.

Derdol : Couldn’t find anything better !
