Introduction of the project – Mixed Flames

April 2026 / latest release: Butterflies & Bruises

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Our earliest memories of music go back to childhood: singing in our rooms, performing for our families, or being part of school choirs. Music was always a space where each of us could express emotions freely, even before we fully understood them.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Our passion grew through performing and sharing music together. When we came together as Mixed Flames in 2017. It was quite a random as we all took part in a casting in Zurich for a new group. And it was definitley a match!

We quickly realized how powerful it is to create something collectively. What started as a casting project turned into a real friendship and a shared vision that kept growing stronger over the years.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Our message is clear: We are five women, five voices — one girl group. As Mixed Flames, we stand for diversity and connection, on and off stage. With up to five-part harmonies and a blend of Pop, Soul, and subtle jazz influences, we’ve created our own sound.

After years of discovering who we are, we can now truly say: this is us. Butterflies & Bruises reflects nearly 10 years of our journey: the highs and lows, the growth, the challenges, and everything in between. Our goal has always been to show that diversity is not just important, but a real gift.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Our sound is a blend of Pop, Soul, and jazz influences, shaped by our five voices. What makes it special is the harmony between us. Together, we create something that wouldn’t exist otherwise. In a music scene where girl groups are still rare in Switzerland, we want to bring something fresh, emotional, and authentic.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

We’ve learned that authenticity is everything. The moment we stopped trying to fit into expectations and started trusting our own stories, our music became more real, and people connected with it on a deeper level.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Our voices are our most important instrument. Beyond that, we work closely with producers and use digital tools or the piano. But a big part of our process is still very hands-on. We arrange vocals, develop ideas together, and manage a lot ourselves, from creative work to organization.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

We’re constantly inspired by artists in the Pop and Soul space who are bold enough to be themselves. We love discovering voices that bring emotional depth and aren’t afraid to experiment. Concrete we would say Olivia Dean, Lana Del Rey or Solange.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Imagine, five women with with mindsets, five lives, five cultures: Our music is directly shaped by our personal experiences — love, heartbreak, friendship, growth, and identity. Coming from different backgrounds allows us to bring diverse perspectives into our music. At the same time, we stand for the idea that no one can be put into just one box. Each of us has many facets, and that’s exactly what defines us.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

We hope listeners feel seen, understood, and empowered. Whether it’s confidence, healing, love, or hope, we want our music to remind people that they’re not alone and that their individuality is something to celebrate.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has taught us the power of connection, but also the importance of communication. Being five makes everything more intense: five times more beautiful, but also five times more complex. We’ve learned how important it is to listen, to trust each other, and to grow together.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Reply

We dream of performing on big national and international festival stages and iconic venues. Spaces where we can share our music, our message, and that special group energy with a wide audience. Mixed Flames is ready for it! 😊

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

We would love to collaborate with artists who combine strong vocals with meaningful storytelling. Stefanie Heinzmann would definitely be someone very special for us. She supported us early on when we were part of the Swiss TV show Stadt Land Talent in 2023 and believed in us, which means a lot to us. Beyond that, we’re also excited by artists from completely different genres, because they challenge and expand our sound. And honestly, artists like Adele, RAYE or Olivia Dean would be absolutely incredible — that would be a dream collaboration for us.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

Our dream is to keep growing, reach bigger stages, and establish ourselves in the Swiss and international music scene. We want to continue evolving while staying true to who we are, and to show that there is space for something like us. We’ve already started working on new music, so there is definitely more to come.

At the same time, we hope to be role models for the younger female generation. We want to show them how beautiful they are, how powerful their voices can be, and that they don’t have to fit into any box to take up space and be heard.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

We hope people discover our authenticity, our diversity, and the heart behind everything we do. More than anything, we want them to feel that what we create is real — and that they can be fully themselves too. Our message has always been rooted in celebrating diversity, because we believe it is a true strength and something that deserves to be seen, heard, and embraced.
