What is your earliest memory connected to music?

When I was three years old, I stole a microphone and gave my very first concert.

It happened at a smaller party, during the performing artists break.

I snuck up to the microphone while everyone was distracted and started singing like rent was due.

Everyone was cheering and joyful.

Nobody knows why I did it but I feel like this is proof that I didn’t choose music, music choose me.

I barely remember it myself but it impressed my grandparents so much that we still talk about this often.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I was a very sensitive and insecure kid.

I’m an only child and I often felt lonely and misunderstood.

Sometimes I still feel that way.

I wasn’t necessarily good at asking for help or talking about my problems.

At a certain point it got so bad that I suffered from heavy nose bleeding for a few years.

Talking made me feel insecure, whereas singing filled my heart with joy.

I also felt like singing was the only thing that earned me respect amongst the other kids.

Older kids would come up to me and ask me to sing for them and for a few minutes I wouldn’t feel like a weird outcast.

Sometimes I would just walk around and make up silly songs about things surrounding me.

I almost annoyed my cousin to death once because I did that for three hours straight.

When I was a teen I started writing and singing about more serious stuff like heartbreak and mental health.

I eventually got better at communicating but creating music to express myself feels like magic and I would never want to miss out on that magic.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Being hated just because you are a woman is already bad but it’s so much worse when women do this to each other.

Internalized Misogyny in women has bothered me for a long time now and Ugly is here to help me and hopefully many other women with our shared anger/ frustration.

Ugly might be the anthem that plays when the downfall of the pick me culture arrives.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Mood Swing Music.

Today we’re sad and angry tomorrow we fight and party.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I have learnt to dig deep into my soul.

Most of the easy superficial topics have been covered already so it’s going to be nearly impossible to stand out like that.

I also like to listen to my own songs and I’m not a huge fan of too generic stuff.

Wouldn’t want to disappoint myself.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

A pen that dries fast, is easy to hold, preferably black ink (blue is fine too) and loose paper. I CANNOT USE NOTEBOOKS FOR SONGWRITING IT DRIVES ME CRAZY.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I recently came across Anna Beau.

Their Music makes me feel so peaceful, I like that.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

As I became more confident, my vision became clearer and I understood better what I wanted and how I want people to perceive me.

My Music is heavily influenced by my personal experiences.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

Live your life and embrace your emotions even if they are messy.

Don’t become an NPC in your own life.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

That I can’t run away.

Music is the answer and I wasted time chasing after sidequests.

I was miserable when I treated it like “just a hobby”.

I actually wrote a song about this too.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I rarely think about that but if it’s somewhere close to the beach I’d be very very very happy.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Rihanna.

I love her art, I love the energy she radiates and I love her voice.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music?(Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Here is my Linktree but there is also a QR code inside the picture: https://linktr.ee/melodyssa

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

My dream is to be able to travel the world and connect with people through my music.

I have a culturally diverse background and I can’t wait to incorporate different languages into my music and I can’t wait to showcase eye catching scenery from all around the world in my music videos.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

That what I create might be deeper than it appears from the outside.
