Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Kayos

Kayos Promo 11-2025

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My earliest musical memory is rooted in the weight and metallic ring of an alto saxophone during elementary school. What began as formal training in school bands evolved into a deep-seated discipline that followed me through high school, teaching me the mechanics of rhythm and melody. By age 13, that technical foundation sparked a creative shift; I realized I had my own stories to tell and began writing my first hip-hop verses. This journey from instrumentalist to lyricist defines my relationship with music as a continuous evolution of self-expression.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

(answered above)

What’s the story behind your current music project?

The story behind my current music project is the culmination of a 12-part series, representing the final chapter of my work in the music industry. This finale features six new releases that showcase a wide variety of styles, serving as your official farewell to the industry.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

My sound is a dynamic fusion that refuses to stay in one lane. I specialize in a versatile blend of gritty, street-level lyricism and smooth, melodic grooves, allowing me to transition seamlessly from high-energy club anthems to introspective, late-night R&B vibes. It’s all about capturing a specific feeling—whether that’s the raw pulse of the city or a soulful, reflective moment—and delivering it with an authentic relatable edge.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

The most significant realization I’ve had is that true innovation comes from looking inward, not outward. I’ve learned to block out industry trends and distractions to ensure every track remains a pure, authentic reflection of my own feelings and experiences.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

I lead the creative vision and ensure every track feels organic, while my engineering team handles the technical execution. I stay hands-on during the mixing process to inject my personal perspective and make sure the final sound is exactly what I envisioned.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I’m loving the entire independent movement right now—any artist pushing boundaries with raw, unfiltered energy. I’m a fan of any sound that feels authentic and moves the culture forward.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

My art is a mix of inner thoughts and outside observations. Every vision comes from the feelings I experience and the creative ideas that spark when I observe the world around me.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I want listeners to feel a deep soul connection. Whether it’s a melody that touches the heart or a track you can simply vibe to and enjoy, I create music to entertain and inspire positive change. Since feelings are the ultimate judge, I focus on sounds that resonate directly with the soul.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has taught me that while the industry is a business, my purpose is the soul; the business side has its ups and downs, but the fulfillment I find in creating is the anchor that keeps me resilient through it all.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

My dream is a one-of-a-kind, high-concept production at the Pyramids of Giza, blending Hollywood’s elite energy with an intimate, exclusive crowd. I want to bring people from all walks of life together to experience a futuristic hip-hop vibe against a backdrop of ancient history—something that’s never been done.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

My dream collaboration would unite Tupac’s raw storytelling with Teddy Pendergrass’s smooth soul. Their legacies inspire my creative direction, as I’ve always appreciated the timeless music and cultural impact they created for the world.
