Formula Indie Sessions : Interview with Sonicwolf

SonicWolf is more than a name.
It’s a creative universe built around music, storytelling, and emotion. Every track represents a piece of a journey… sometimes fierce, sometimes fragile. It’s driven by the belief that sound can move people the same way a moment in life can. I create across multiple styles—J-Pop, J-Rock, cinematic, even fusion genres—but all under the same core idea: to feel deeply, and to help others feel understood.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I remember hearing songs my father sang and listened to as a kid, feeling something shift when a melody played. It wasn’t about understanding music yet, it was just pure emotion. That moment stayed with me. Music became this place where feelings made sense, even when words didn’t.
Influences were Stevie Wonder to Michael Jackson. Bryan Adams to Gun N Roses & Aerosmith.
Pop, R&B and Rock were the genre’s I grew up with in my early childhood.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It began when I was in my teens. Experimenting with the piano and creating instrumental pieces at first. It was never about trying to be an artist; it was about needing a voice, and music felt like an honest one.”
What’s the story behind your current music project?
The current project explores how emotions evolve through adversity.
How fragments of experiences become growth. Each group or song I create reflects a different emotional landscape. They’re inspired by personal history, anime storytelling, and the belief that vulnerability can be powerful when turned into art.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
It’s cinematic emotion meets modern pop influence. Think anime soundtrack energy blended with worldwide songwriting sensibility.. part introspection, part fire. I use Japanese and English interchangeably, not just for sound, but because some feelings speak better in one language than the other.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
That perfection doesn’t mean polished.. it means true. I used to chase flawless production. Now I chase moments that feel alive, even if they break conventional rules. It must come from a real place. From the heart.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Voice note app for ideas at random hours, a MIDI piano, DAWs like Fruity Loops. I also frequently work with AI-assisted tools to sketch melodies or simulate emotional dynamics which helps with the final production. But I always refine manually.. human intent leads every decision.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I’ve been drawn lately to artists who blend genres with authenticity. One OK Rock’s – Tropical Therapy has been on repeat there’s something raw yet intentional about their sound that I really resonate with.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Everything I create comes from lived emotion. Inspiration from a movie, anime.. a book.. Something I saw during the day. I don’t write about feelings, I write from them.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I hope they feel seen. Whether it’s a track about pain, hope, or rediscovery.. I want someone listening to think, ‘This is exactly what I couldn’t put into words.’
This has been expressed to me by a fan. It moves me and encourages me to continue this journey.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
That expression is not about being understood by the world.. it’s about understanding yourself first. When music is honest, people will feel it.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Tokyo Dome would be surreal. Somewhere cinematic.. where the visual and sound can merge into a full storytelling moment. Also, having my songs at an anime or film opening event would be a dream.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Radwimps for their cinematic storytelling.
Where can listeners follow and support your music?
You can find me, SonicWolf on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major platforms. On Instagram, TikTok and YouTube under @sonicwolfmusic.official

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
To bring these stories to life visually.. anime collabs, full cinematic music videos, maybe even an animation series. I want to build something people can connect with beyond the music alone.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That behind the concept, I’m simply someone who feels deeply and tries to share that honestly. The wolf is just the symbol. The heartbeat is still human.
