Formula Indie Sessions : Interview with Gerina

gerina

Gerina is an award-winning songwriter who is now writing and releasing music for herself as an artist. Her multi-cultural upbringing and fluency in English, Spanish and Italian fills her songs with heart, passion, and unique storytelling.

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Me holding a hair brush as a microphone  when I was a little baby and dancing in my diapers jajaja

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I was around 15 yrs old, when I started learning how to play guitar and discovered that with 4 chords I could write a song 🙂 haven’t stopped ever since!

What’s the story behind your current music project?

For the longest time I became a songwriter for other artists. I even started developing new artists. Was succesfulding that, won best song of the year for Thalia, among others. Finally , I decided to release my own music with my message of self worth, strength, power, love and believe in yourself.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Depends on what they hear, cuz my English music is very different than my Spanish music. English is very storytelling, pop oriented. Spanish, I would say is something fresh and new, with a ton of attitude!

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I think the more real and vulnerable you are the more you  can connect with others.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

My guitar or a good beat and my computer 😉

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Syamali (Pray for you)

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I think I write from my experiences, and the more I experience the more I can write from an honest, vulnerable or strong point of view. The artistic vision is a vibe, an energy that people feel when they hear you sing or see you perform live.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

Emotions are mixed, as much as I sing about love and fighting for it, I also sing about being strong and standing your ground when things are not right, to know your worth and to not take anything less.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

That is always there for me. Good or bad, it has never left me. Its always waiting to help me get through a rough moment? Or celebrate a good one! 🙂

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Any festival where the love and appreciation of good music is the main focus.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I would love to collaborate with “Airbag” from Argentina, I think their music touches me in a way my music does.. I feel the passion in the lyrics and the melodies, love love love their energy on stage! I think we could put on a great show together 🙂

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

In my next chapter I wanna focus on performing live more all the songs I released this year! Would love to spend 2026 singing live, everywhere! Europe, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, España, just to name a few!! Wherever my music takes me!

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

The level of creativity and passion I share with my music doesn’t necessarily stick to one genre. I try so hard but it comes out the way it feels natural and its not always the same style.. I love turning negative into positive.
