Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with BLOKE

Psych-Noise Rock, Berlin/UK Psychedelic Kraut band, shaped by the North London alternative scene BLOKE, a noise and psych rock project originally from London and now based in Berlin, is rapidly gaining recognition for its unique fusion of Krautrock rhythms, psychedelic layers, and garage punk energy. Fronted by German artist Jakob Buraczewski, who spent five years immersed in London’s alternative music scene, the band has built a reputation for its raw, intense performances and boundary-pushing experimental sound.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I think it was a Deep Purple mixtape I found in a box my parents had stored away. My dad used to collect a lot of music back in the day, and I ended up playing that tape on repeat.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I’ve always had little snippets of music in my head — ideas I’d record on tape at first, and later on my phone or computer. I started turning those ideas into actual songs 10 years ago, just briefly at the time. Later on, I began developing my music more seriously, which eventually grew into my project BLOKE.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
BLOKE grew out of a mix of exhaustion and frustration — with music, with people, and with myself. It started as a way to underline personal stories and observations, to capture the things that stayed in my head and share them with an audience. The project became a synonym for that uncomfortable transformation: taking raw ideas and turning them into something real.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
It probably sounds like noise rock served on a plate of kraut and psych-feedback ideas
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I think the turning point for me was learning to bounce between working on a laptop and creating in a real physical space. That back-and-forth helped me reflect on ideas in a new way and really pushed my progress.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Using my guitar and voice in Logic is usually my starting point. It gives me a straightforward structure to build a song around
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
My pals from Body Horror, a band from London, are pretty much on the road right now. You should definitely give them a listen
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I think it’s always a long road shaped by experiences. Especially the people you make music with. They constantly influence you and can change the direction of your style.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I think any genuine reaction — positive or negative — is meaningful. As long as there’s an emotional response, the music has done its job. Enjoyment should be king
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
It’s a longer process than I expected — and it’s on repeat.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Definitely the Austin Psych Festival aka known as Levitation
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Peter Hayes from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Pete, give me a shout.

Steadiness
