Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with MDJ

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Some old Greek & Disco songs at the age of about 10, that I used to listen to from the vinyl records on my parents’ turntable.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
Generally, since I was little, I liked the process of cutting and mixing songs on cassettes to create something of my own, a unique mix that I know I made…
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I’m currently working on some songs for the international scene. Music is global, it’s heard from one end of the planet to the other, so I wanted to create something that would be heard worldwide.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Because I’m currently focusing on 3 genres/styles of music (dance, African & relaxing), I would say it’s more uplifting and enjoyable music.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
That music is for the world, not for me. I have to make something that will entertain, excite, and generally please the people who listen to it.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
At the moment, exclusively on a computer with a wide range of programs, depending on the music that is to be created.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Me! Just kidding… 🙂 I don’t have anyone in particular that I like, I listen to everything and everyone.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I’m generally an optimistic person and I rarely put my personal experiences into music, I usually use my unbridled imagination to create, depending on what I’m thinking of making at that time.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I don’t expect them to receive any emotions or messages… I just want them to have fun, dance and have a good time with my music.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
That anyone who has been involved in music -whether professionally or as a listener- has only positive things to gain….
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I don’t know if I would like to play at a big festival. In the past yes, now, not so much… 🙂
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Hmmm, difficult question. I would like to collaborate with many people, either singers or producers. But to answer, productively I would like to sit next to Quincy Jones at the time when he was making Michael Jackson’s songs.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)
From my website (www.MDJ.gr) they go to my LinkTree where I have added all the music platforms where my songs are available. Right now they are on 17 music platforms and all my songs are discoverable on all social media where music can be added (for example, TikTok, Instagram etc.).
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
Right now I’m focused a little more on creating a small record label (Tsobanegan Productions) that will distribute music on music platforms, helping independent musicians like me as much as I can. In the near future, I hope to have more free time to create more… 🙂
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That “the sky is not the limit” when it comes to my music…
