Formula Indie Sessions Interview with Ana Danch

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

One of my brightest early memories is standing by the window as a child, singing melodies I invented myself. Music was my language long before I understood what songwriting truly was.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I wrote my first original song, «Не плач», when I was 14, and it unexpectedly became popular in Ukraine. That was the moment I understood how powerful music can be, and I decided to dedicate myself to it.
I write most of my songs myself: usually, the chorus lyrics and the melody come to me at the same time — they appear together and set the emotional tone for the entire future composition.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

I am currently working on a mini-album titled «Магія», opened by the songs «Ой, ти родися» and «Мавка».
This project is my creative experiment: a blend of pop music — my core direction — with elements of Ukrainian folk, selected modern sound textures, and touches of contemporary electronic music.

In parallel, I am creating an English-language mini-album, which will be in a different style — more oriented toward an international pop aesthetic. The first single is expected in January–February 2026.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I am a pop singer who loves and is not afraid to experiment.
My sound combines modern pop, folk accents, light electronic nuances, and sincere, emotional songwriting.
My songs are about love, tenderness, sensuality, femininity, magic, and a hint of mystique.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I learned the importance of freedom. The best decisions appear when you allow yourself to go beyond genre boundaries and trust your intuition.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential to your creative process?

I work with various modern production tools, but the most important thing for me is to preserve emotional honesty and a natural feel.
Whenever it fits, I like adding elements of Ukrainian authenticity — they make the music closer to my roots.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I gravitate toward artists who create atmospheric, emotional music and are not afraid to blend styles. I appreciate musicians who build entire worlds within their compositions.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

My music is an extension of my life: everything I’ve lived through — my roots, my inner changes, emotions, and experiences — reflects in my songs. I always strive to create honestly.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I want to convey warmth, sincerity, femininity, and inner strength.
I want people to find closeness, tenderness, and a touch of magic in my songs.
I hate any form of violence, and my position is love and peace in the world — and I want this energy to always be felt in my music.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has taught me courage — to be myself, to open up, to explore new directions, and to speak honestly through my songs.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I dream of performing at a major European festival that values pop music, atmosphere, and artistry. I love stages where you can create an emotion, not just sing a song.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I would like to work with an artist who creates deep, atmospheric, emotionally rich music — someone who thinks in images and is able to build entire universes within their sound.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

I want to fully develop the world of «Магія», finish my new English-language mini-album, and continue creating modern pop music filled with emotion, atmosphere, and Ukrainian identity.
I dream of Ukrainian artists sounding global while remaining authentic.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I hope they feel my sincerity and see that every song is a story born from the words and melodies that first appear in my mind.
It is always something very personal and very real.
