Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with A Man From San Pietro

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Memories of people singing traditional dalmatian a capella singing, I remember the calm of many people singing in unison.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
When i was probably 12 or 13 years old, I’d borrow my cousins synthesizer, i can’t remember the brand, but I’d play on it like it was a toy.
Soon enough I realised that if I put my fingers in a particular way, and move them around the keyboard, I could make “songs”.
It had a built-in drum machine and that was fun once I realised how to make my own simple beats.
Looking back, those were the first music creating steps i took, eventhough i never explored it further , and a few years later i fell in love with the guitar and completely forgot that I originally got the urge to create on a synth.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
A Man From San Pietro is a label, music project, and a very short and rudimentary description of myself.
I’m trying to record good songs, all by myself, in any style I feel like.
I have no plans to play live, just record albums, EPs and singles.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
It’s generally guitar based music, in a plethora of genres and styles with lazy and quiet vocals.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
That you can do whatever you want.
Nobody cares, so do what you want.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
My laptop, 1989 Telecaster and it’s neck pickup, a Squier Classic Vibe P-Bass, Reason Studios and Ableton, and a great deal of guitar pedals.
Amplitube for amp simulation, and a Focurite recording interface.
As simple as it can get, and except the Telecaster, very cheap.
I love the fact that I can fit my “studio” in a backpack and record anywhere, which i often do.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
DOPE LEMON – Marinade
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I write mostly about stuff that i saw on the TV, but sometimes some anecdotes from my daily life.
The biggest influence, inspiration and motivation is modern art in all it’s forms. I found out that going to art exhibitions makes me want to create music.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
No messages, and i would like that people take something positive from my music if they have to take something.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
It taught me to like myself for real reasons.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I don’t want to perform anywhere, I have crippling stage fright.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I’d like to make a record with Skinshape. I love the dub feel of his records and would love to create such an album.
But also, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I want a petrodragonic masterclass in record production efficiency.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I would like to get better at making full albums and explore new styles.
I want to know more and create more, but the biggest dream would be to make my music project a full time job.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That I genuinely care about my creations and approach the process of making a song as I would if I was making a painting or a movie.
