Formula Indie Sessions Interview with Ghost U Like It I Love It

My current project is all about growth, honesty, and elevation. I’m not following trends or chasing waves; I’m building music that reflects where I am now and where I’m headed next. It’s a new chapter, and I’m putting everything I’ve learned along the way into it.

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Some of my earliest musical memories come from a cabin in Temple, Texas, where my grandfather and his band would play while the whole family gathered to eat, dance, and spend time together. Watching him perform had a huge impact on me. It was the first time I realized music could bring people together, create lasting memories, and make people feel something deeper.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

It all started with years spent in choir, from elementary school through high school. That’s where I realized music was the one place I could express myself without holding back. It became my outlet, my voice, and eventually my purpose.

What is the story behind your current music project?

This project is built from real experiences, the highs, the lows, the lessons, and the growth. It’s me stepping into a more mature version of myself and letting the world hear that evolution.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

My sound is emotional but confident: Southern bounce mixed with storytelling. It’s cinematic, grounded, and built to make people feel something real.

What is one thing you have learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I learned that authenticity wins every time. When I stopped trying to fit into a lane and simply created from my truth, everything changed.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential to your creative process?

I rely on my DAW, my microphone chain, and a clean recording environment. But the most important tool in my arsenal is my mindset. If I’m locked in, everything else falls into place.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I’ve been listening to The Royston Club a lot lately. As someone who grew up in the US and moved to the UK, discovering bands like them has been exciting. They’ve got great melodies, loads of energy, and a sound that feels distinctly British while still being universally appealing.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Everything I’ve lived through shows up in my music. My family, my journey, my challenges, my wins, and my losses all shape the way I write, record, and move. Moving from the US to the UK was a big chapter in that journey, and it’s definitely had an impact on how I see the world and express myself as an artist.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I want people to feel motivated, understood, and seen. At its core, my music is about resilience, growth, and staying grounded, even when life gets loud and the weight of the world feels heavy.

What is the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has taught me patience. It’s taught me that timing matters and that every season has a purpose. More than anything, it’s taught me to trust my sound and my vision. Not everyone will cheer for you, so you have to learn to cheer for yourself and be your own biggest fan.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I would love to perform at a major European festival. Music is a universal language, and the idea of sharing my songs with people from different backgrounds, all connected by the same experience, would be a dream come true.

If I could collaborate with any artist, past or present, it would be Childish Gambino. I connect with artists who understand the power of emotion and storytelling, and he has a unique ability to build entire worlds through his music. His creativity has no limits, and the way he moves across genres with confidence is something I really admire. That’s the kind of energy I gravitate towards. A collaboration like that would challenge me to grow as an artist, expand my sound, and create something both authentic and unforgettable.

I hope people see that everything I create comes from a real place. I’m not here to chase trends or pretend to be something I’m not. I’m here to grow, inspire, and leave something meaningful behind.
