Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with DUPLEXITY

DUPLEXITY is the powerhouse sibling duo of Savannah Judy and Luke Judy. With a natural chemistry that only siblings can share, they use their connection to explore themes of love, identity, heartbreak, and self-discovery through a Gen Z lens. Originally from the south, their sound feels like nostalgia in slow motion, grounded in honest lyrics, and stellar live performances.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
We both grew up in a very musical family. Our dad was a drummer, and our mom was also very musically inclined, so music was always playing in our house. We were introduced to so many different genres and styles from a really young age. Since music has always been such a huge part of our lives, it’s honestly hard to pinpoint one specific first memory connected to it.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
We grew up in a small town and started performing in our church band at a young age. That’s really where our love for singing and performing began. Being on stage always felt natural to us, and even as kids, we knew performing was what we wanted to do with our lives.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Right now, we’re focused on creating music that feels authentic to who we are and where we come from. Ever since our first trip to Nashville we have felt a new calling, and we’ve found ourselves reconnecting with our roots. When we first started the band, we were very young, we started making edgy rock music because that is what we were listening to then. In some ways trying to fit a certain image that we thought was cool. But as we’ve grown, we have leaned back into more southern rock, which is the direction that feels the most honest and natural to us and who we are.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Our sound, no matter the genre is best described as; High-energy rock and pop with a raw edge. Our sound blends driving anthems with deep emotion, delivering songs that are empowering, authentic, and unapologetically intense.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
One of the biggest things we’ve learned is that simplicity is powerful. We both naturally tend to overthink and overcomplicate things while writing, but we realized that the
clearest and most impactful songs are often the simplest. Focusing on honesty and clarity has completely changed our songwriting process for the better.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Our creative process usually starts with Pro Tools and Logic Pro, since those are the programs we’re most comfortable using. We both play guitar and bass, and vocals are obviously a huge part of what we do. Most of our demos are created completely by us, from the instrumentation to the production, before taken to a producer.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Right now we are really loving Troubling mind by LIghtnin’ Luke. We found him on the internet and we are obsessed with his voice and overall style.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
A lot of our music is inspired by personal experiences, especially relationships and the emotions that come with them. We believe the best storytelling comes from real experiences because people can genuinely feel the honesty in it. Writing from a real place has always been important to us
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
.We’re huge advocates for mental health, and that’s something we touch on often in our music. We want our songs to help people feel understood and less alone in whatever they’re going through. At the same time, we also want people to have fun, feel energized, and escape for a little while when they listen to our music.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Music has taught us that growth takes time and consistency. If you compared our performances now to when we first started, the difference would be unbelievable. Music really is like learning a language — the more you immerse yourself in it, the more natural it becomes.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Our dream venue is the Hollywood Bowl. It’s one of our favorite places we’ve ever been to, and every show we’ve seen there has been unforgettable. Performing there one day would be a dream come true for us.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
We would love to collaborate with Zac Brown. We grew up listening to his music, and he’s been a huge inspiration to us for years. Not only is he incredibly talented, but getting the chance to work with someone who influenced us from such a young age would be really special.
