Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Arké

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Music has been part of my life since I was a child. One of my earliest memories is spending hours listening to the radio, waiting for my favorite songs so I could record them on cassette tapes.
I would sit with my headphones on, eyes closed, completely immersed in the music and the emotions it carried. Even then, music felt like a place where I could escape, dream and connect with something deeper.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
As a kid, I used to have fun changing the lyrics of famous songs and making my own versions of them.
My real passion for creating music began in the 1990s, during high school. I played in several bands, mostly performing covers of well-known artists, but that was also the time when I started writing my own songs.
For many years, those songs remained hidden in a drawer. I never shared them with anyone and kept them only for myself. Looking back, I think songwriting became my way of expressing thoughts and emotions that I couldn’t always put into words.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
As I mentioned before, I started playing music and writing songs in the 1990s. In a way, that’s also when the Arké project was born.
I remember being in a rehearsal room with two friends. It was an old, run-down garage where we spent hours playing music and dreaming about the future. We were trying to find a name for the band, and that’s when the name “Arké” came up for the very first time.
The project never truly started back then, and eventually I put it aside. Life took me in different directions, but I never completely forgot about it.
Years later, I realized that Arké was still there, waiting for the right moment. What began as a name in a garage has now become the musical project I always wanted to bring to life.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
It’s difficult for me to describe my sound in a simple way because, for me, music is a vortex of feelings, emotions and thoughts that constantly move through my mind.
Every song starts from something personal and emotional, so the sound naturally follows the story I want to tell.
If I had to put a label on it, I would describe it as Alternative Pop with rock and punk influences, blended with intimate atmospheres and emotional songwriting.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Honestly, I have never focused too much on learning special techniques or chasing technical perfection.
What I have learned is that honesty matters more than perfection. A song becomes powerful when it is true, even if it is imperfect.
For me, music is not about showing how good you are. It is about creating something that can reach people’s hearts and resonate with emotions they may not always be able to express.
When a song manages to touch those hidden strings inside each of us, that’s when it truly comes alive.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Even though my approach is quite simple and not particularly technical, the guitar is the instrument at the heart of my creative process.
Most of my songs begin with a simple melody that starts playing in my head. I then pick up my acoustic guitar and try to shape that idea into something real, building a basic structure that becomes the foundation of the song.
From there, the creative process continues with the help of my producer, who helps transform those initial ideas into a complete musical arrangement. But everything usually starts with a melody, an emotion, and an acoustic guitar.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Over the years I have listened to many indie artists and different genres of music.
Back in the 1990s, I was deeply influenced by underground bands such as Shandon, Mas Ruido and many other projects that ranged from punk rock and ska to metal and pop.
Right now, I’ve been listening to and following a band from my area called Vaeva. I really enjoy their sound, and I think the singer has a beautiful ability to convey emotions through her voice and lyrics.
In general, I’m always drawn to artists who put honesty and emotion at the center of their music.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
All my songs are inspired by personal experiences, emotions and moments that I have lived through. At the same time, I believe they are feelings that most people have experienced in one way or another.
Through my music, I want to create a genuine connection with those who listen. I hope my songs can help people bring to the surface emotions and feelings that are often kept hidden because of fear, judgment or the difficulty of showing our most vulnerable side.
To me, vulnerability is not a weakness. It is one of the most honest ways we can connect with each other, and that is something I try to express in every song I write.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work? If I have to explain exactly what emotions or messages my music should convey, then I probably did something wrong.
I want my songs to be direct and sincere, to reach people immediately and find their way inside them without needing too many explanations.
More than sending a specific message, I hope my music can create recognition. I want listeners to hear a song and think: “This is me. I’ve felt this. I’ve lived this.”
If that happens, then the song has already achieved its purpose.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
The most important lesson music has taught me is that it should be about freedom and connection.
For me, music is a way of releasing emotions and expressing things that I struggle to put into words. It allows me to bring to the surface thoughts and feelings that would otherwise remain hidden.
It may sound contradictory, but I actually find it difficult to talk about myself and open up to other people. Music is the one place where I can do that honestly and without fear.
Through music, I have learned that sharing our vulnerability can create connections that words alone often cannot.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I grew up attending small concerts at local festivals and intimate clubs. I haven’t seen many huge shows in my life, and I think that experience has stayed with me over the years.
I’ve always preferred small and intimate venues, places where you can be close to the musicians, feel their energy and create a genuine connection with them.
For this reason, I don’t really dream about performing on massive stages. What attracts me most is a more personal and authentic environment, where there is a direct relationship between the artist and the audience.
I need that human connection. For me, music is not just about performing songs; it’s about sharing emotions with people in the same room and feeling that connection in real time.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why? That’s a difficult question for me.
Some of the artists who influenced me the most are no longer with us, such as Kurt Cobain and Jeff Buckley. Their music, their songwriting and the way they expressed emotions had a strong impact on me and, in some way, helped shape my own artistic identity.
When it comes to current artists, I don’t really have a specific dream collaboration in mind. As I mentioned before, I really enjoy the sound and artistic approach of Vaeva, a band from my area that I’ve been following with great interest.
More than chasing a particular name, I would be happy to collaborate with artists who share the same passion for honest, emotional and authentic music. If the right opportunity came along, I would definitely be open to it.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
My project has only just begun.
There are new singles on the way, and my goal is to complete my first album by next year, bringing this first chapter of the journey to a close.
What may sound strange is that I already have ideas for the album that will follow. In my mind, this is part of a larger trilogy, and the second chapter is already starting to take shape.
At the same time, I want to do things carefully and give every song the attention it deserves. I don’t want to rush or chase a world that moves at an incredible speed but is often quickly forgotten.
More than numbers, streams or fame, I hope to be remembered for the emotions my music can create. If my songs can stay with people long after they have finished listening, then I will have achieved something meaningful.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope people discover themselves, not me.
I hope they can recognize parts of their own lives in what I write and express through my music. If my songs can help someone feel understood, then they have already achieved their purpose.
I want people to understand that being vulnerable is not a weakness. It is something worth embracing, fighting for and living with. Some of the deepest and most meaningful connections between people are born from the courage to show who we really are.
More than anything, I hope my music can encourage a little more empathy in a world that often seems to be losing it.
