Introduction of the project: ART PROJECT

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Reply: Me as a child.. A cold winter night near Christmas Holidays, beside a fireplace.. My folks chose to listen to “Live Tapes” from the legendary progessive rock band of the 70’s “Barclay James Harvest”. That was a real revelation for my ears!

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Reply: When I first saw a small guitar hunging out of a music store. I bought it and made my first songs immediately, thoughg it was not even tuned! Though I didn’t Know how to play at all..

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Reply: ART PROJECT is rather a studio project based in Athens Greece. Our name comes from the initials of our names: Art Kydonakis (keyboards, composer, editing) – Roberto Lucas (main voice & quitars) – Tom Pefanis (drums & rythm section) Our main female voice is ANNEZE singing in many of our songs. We were formed last year, but each member has a long-standing experience in music.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Reply: Though someone might say that we are a synth pop – nu disco group, the truth is this: We experiment with different genres, because our goal is to prove that music is one. Our moto is “High energy – energy & energy!” Music is nothing without a good melody and a strong rythm. We may find it in a rock song, a rave song, or a folk song. Sure we prefer making electronic dance based on retrowave senses!

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

Reply: Recording, remixing and mastering is an ART, equivalent to writing music and lyrics. You cannot make a good song if one leg is missing.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Reply: Any kind of synths, daws and pluggings would do. But we still prefer analog synth sounds in some cases.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Reply: We love Cut Copy and their song “Hearts on Fire”

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Reply: Our soul is the one that makes music! We would not be able to create something mechanically, in order to succed. Of course we are influenced by simple human experiences, expectations, lost love stories, joys and sorrows.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

Reply: Life is short. Don’t feel bad if you are trying to enjoy it. On the contrary, you must feel bad if you don’t do something creative with it. For yourself or the universe. We want the people feel good and dance with our songs.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Reply: Consistency  persistence, discipline to your goals, Never give up!

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Reply: Primavera Sound fest in Barcelona Spain, or Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City, would be great!

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Reply: We would like to have been a part of the 80’s – 90’s music explotion and play with legends like New Order, The Cure and others.
