Formula Indie Sessions : Interview with Yacky La Esencia

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
One of my earliest memories connected to music is growing up surrounded by Latin rhythms in Spain. Music was always present in family moments, celebrations, and everyday life. From a young age, I felt that music had the power to connect people emotionally, and that feeling never left me.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My passion for music started naturally. Writing and expressing emotions through melodies became a way for me to transform personal experiences into something positive and powerful. When I moved to Lausanne, music became even more important because it helped me express my identity, my roots, and my journey.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Yacky La Esencia represents authenticity and personal evolution. The name “La Esencia” reflects staying true to who I am while growing as an artist and as a person. My project combines urban Latin energy with real emotions and life experiences. Every song is a part of my story.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
I would describe my sound as modern reggaeton with emotion, rhythm, and personality. It mixes Latin vibes, urban energy, and melodic influences that create something fresh but still authentic to my roots.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I learned that authenticity is everything. People connect more with real emotions than perfection. Once I understood that, I started creating music more freely and honestly.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
The studio environment is very important for me. I work closely with JD Production and LA COMPAGNIE – Rooms Records to shape my sound. Recording, vocal production, and finding the right atmosphere are essential parts of my creative process.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Right now I’m listening to many independent Latin and urban artists who are bringing fresh energy to the scene. I respect artists who stay authentic and build their careers independently.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
My life experiences influence everything I create. Moving from Spain to Switzerland, adapting to a new culture, and facing challenges helped shape my artistic vision. My music reflects ambition, resilience, emotions, and the desire to inspire people through my journey.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I want listeners to feel energy, motivation, confidence, and emotion. I hope my music helps people disconnect from negativity and connect with their emotions, dreams, and passion for life.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Music taught me patience and consistency. Success does not happen overnight, but if you stay focused and believe in your vision, everything grows step by step.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I would love to perform at major Latin and urban festivals in Europe and internationally. Performing in front of thousands of people who connect with my music would be an unforgettable experience.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with artists like J Balvin, Rauw Alejandro, or Maluma because they each brought their own identity and style to the global Latin urban movement. They inspired millions of people and showed that Latin music can connect cultures worldwide. I admire their creativity, evolution, and the energy they bring to their music and performances.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music?
You can follow me on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Spotify, and all digital platforms as Yacky La Esencia.
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
My dream is to continue growing internationally, reach bigger audiences, perform on more stages, and represent my culture and story through music while staying authentic to myself.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope people discover not only the artist, but also the person behind the music — someone passionate, determined, and deeply connected to his roots and emotions.
