Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Unforced5

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Fips:I think she’s always been in my life.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
Fips: Even before starting school, I wanted a guitar, but unfortunately I had to wait until I was 15 years old and could afford my first guitar with money I had earned myself.
Elena: My father is also a musician. That’s why music has been a part of my life since I was little. I started learning the recorder when I was about 7 years od and I’ve always loved to sing.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Fips: There’s no story, it’s simply pure passion for music.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Fips: Simple hard rock, West Coast 80s hair metal mixed with modern influences.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Fips : The best guitar is useless if you don’t know how to use it, and less is more.
Elena: I learned the proper singing technique in my vocal lessons. This is important because this type of music puts a lot of strain on the vocal cords.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Fips: German-English translator… hahaha. For songwriting, I need easy-to-use studio software (Presonus Studio One). I get my guitar sounds from the Line 6 Helix floorboard. For live performances, I also use the Helix through ENGL amps and Marshall cabinets. The guitars are DIY.
Elena: A good microphone is very important to me. I’m very happy with the Shure microphone. And yeah, the German-English translator is really helpful for me too.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Fips: I have a very broad taste in music, and I mostly listen to internet radio stations playing hard rock. But my all-time favorites are Mötley Crüe.
Elena: I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music, but especially melodic rock and the 80s rock scene.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Fips: Initially, I was focused on channeling my creative energy into music. Today, I also process some of it through lyrics. But there are no political statements.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Fips: I want to convey the fun and joy of genuine, handmade music.
Elena: As Fips already said, sharing the joy of authentic, handmade sound without samples.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Fips: Don’t trust anyone who promises success in this business. 😉
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Fips: Wherever people want to hear us. Small, heartfelt events can evoke more emotions than many large events.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Fips: There are so many, I really can’t name any artists.
