Mejosh is an Afrobeat artist whose sound goes beyond one lane, blending Afrobeat with other genres to create something dynamic, global, and emotionally driven. His music reflects both his African roots and his openness to experimenting with different styles, making his artistry versatile and forward-thinking.

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My earliest memories of music come from growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, where music is part of everyday life. From the sounds of street vendors to church choirs and popular Afrobeat playing everywhere, music was always present. Those early experiences shaped how I feel rhythm and melody today.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

My passion grew naturally from being surrounded by music and being inspired by artists who told real stories through their sound. I started experimenting, writing, and eventually decided to take it seriously about four years ago. That was the point where I committed to developing my craft and building my identity as an artist.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

My current project represents my journey so far—where I come from, what I’ve experienced, and how I’m evolving. It’s about growth, self-expression, and pushing beyond expectations. I’m not limiting myself to just one sound; I’m exploring different directions while still staying true to my Afrobeat foundation.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I’d describe my sound as a fusion—Afrobeat at the core, but with influences from multiple genres. It’s melodic, rhythmic, and expressive, with a focus on vibe and storytelling. There’s energy in it, but also emotion, so listeners can both feel it and connect to it.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of authenticity. Trying to fit into a box limits creativity. Once I embraced experimenting and being true to myself, my music became more natural and impactful.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

My process relies heavily on digital audio workstations, recording equipment, and collaboration with producers. But beyond the technical tools, inspiration and environment are just as important. The right vibe can shape an entire song.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I’m always discovering new indie artists because there’s so much raw creativity in that space. It’s inspiring to see artists building their sound independently and pushing boundaries without limitations.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

My life in Lagos and everything I’ve experienced growing up plays a huge role in my music. It influences my lyrics, my perspective, and the energy I bring. My vision is to tell real stories while also creating music that connects globally.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I want people to feel something real when they listen to my music—whether it’s energy, motivation, or reflection. At the same time, I want my music to inspire and create a sense of connection across cultures.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has taught me patience and consistency. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and every step of the journey matters. Staying committed even when things are slow is what builds long-term growth.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I’d love to perform on major global stages and festivals where I can connect with diverse audiences. Bringing Afrobeat to international platforms and sharing my sound worldwide is a big goal.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I’d want to collaborate with artists who are innovative and not afraid to push boundaries. People who create timeless music and have a global impact inspire me the most.
