Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Forbidden Order

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
For most of us, it begins in childhood. We start by listening, and over time the connection deepens. It often feels inevitable that we’ll begin to play music before long.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
We think it starts with being a fan first. As you listen to music, you eventually begin to wonder, “Can I do something better?” and that’s what leads to your first attempts at composing songs.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
It’s the culmination of a lot of experience for some of us. We’ve been in other bands before, and when we created this one, we wanted to take what worked and combine it with the knowledge we had gained. That’s why we came up with the branding on the first day, because we had done our research, studied a lot, and wanted to differentiate ourselves from the rest of the scene.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
We have our roots in metalcore, but we love exploring new sounds to create something unique that can move across different styles. So if you enjoy artists with a lot of variety and range in their sound, we might have something for you.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
In the age of technology, it’s easy to create big, complex ideas on a computer, but you have to remember that you’ll need to perform them live. Being aware of that reality sometimes makes us question what we should actually do.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
To add depth to our music, we use plugins to recreate orchestral elements or create new textures. We’ve found that a more refined sound, rather than a raw one, suits the band both visually and musically.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Since it’s important to support the next generation of bands, we’d say Enox, a band we recently discovered. We also have huge respect for major independent bands like While She Sleeps, Attila, and Shadow of Intent.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
They’re closely connected. As a very ambitious band with a strong entrepreneurial mindset, we always try to come up with new songs and ideas that stand out from the rest of the scene. This comes from our personal experiences, we grew up in competitive environments where we had to stand out to succeed. And as music fans, you don’t want to simply copy what you’re listening to, you need to create something different.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
To dream big. To take risks and become the best version of themselves. To try something new and go out there chasing their dreams. To believe they can succeed in anything they set their minds to. To push themselves, even and especially in difficult times. By doing this, you can Reveal Your Potential.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Even if you have the best song in the world, it doesn’t matter if nobody hears it!
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
We think it would be Wacken Open Air, since it’s a festival we heard about when we were kids and have kept the ambition of playing there one day. More locally, it would be Metropolis (M-TELUS now) in our city of Montréal.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
We think it would probably be Avenged Sevenfold, since they love to explore different sounds like us, and we would probably be able to create something very unique together. Or Ice Nine Kills, because they like to create big concepts, just like we do!

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
For now, it would be a first European tour. We know we have a lot of fans over there, so we would love to meet them. In a more optimistic approach, we would also love to open for a bigger act on the road. We’ve been preparing ourselves for when the moment comes, so we’ll be ready!
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
The determination of a band that really pushes itself and questions every decision it makes to make sure it can deliver something listeners don’t hear and see every day. That ambition, dreaming and working hard in something you believe can lead to your goals in life.
