Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Romè

IMG_2219

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

To be totally honest, probably learning the Candy dance

I wasn’t exposed to a lot of music when growing up so even now I’m learning about and hearing a lot of new music which I probably should have heard long ago.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

It all started when I was around 15 years old when I went through a heart break creating my first song called ‘Regrets’. when i made this song I also tried to perform it live as i didnt know about recording at the time.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Well I have a few, but the latest one I’ve started revolves around the idea of love and showing affection towards the one you love. Not being in a relationship has allowed this project to grow further as it’s more of a projection of how I would see and treat the woman I’d be in a relationship with.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Chill, Rhythmic, Passionate

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music? “Make what you like, Not what they want”

This line alone completely shifted the way I make music as it embraced the style and sounds I personally wanted in my music. This then led to me adopting my own style and flow instead of sounding like every other artist.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process? All i need is the Notes app, couldn’t live without it

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I have a one for each that i really like:

For artist I really like Dame Dame

For Song I’d say ‘skeletons’ by hard life

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I think throughout my journey as an artist I’ve progressively changed my sound based on things such as spiritual development and personal development.

The way how I view a piece of art is significantly different than before as I am now unapologetically real when I approach any project.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I hope listeners feel whatever message I am aiming to convey with the project I am working on, this may be Love, Sadness, confidence, or even confusion.

I feel like as an artist it is important to diversify the approach you take to different projects aiming to make each song its own unique piece of art.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

That not everyone sees things the way you do

And some will never see things the way you do

Someone will like you for you

You just need to find them

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Haha funny question.

To be honest id love to perform at wireless

But anything where new people could be introduced to my sound and I could interact with current listeners would be amazing

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

This is a hard question as the answer would change depending on when you ask, however right now it would have to be Jorja Smith

Collaborating with Jorja Smith would be honestly incredible as her vocal control and overall sound is absolutely angelic and i feel like it would really challenge me to create some of my best work, not only that i feel like the sound and ideas i could bring would blend well with her style

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

I aim to remain consistent, constantly improving my craft and showing my listeners WHY exactly they support my music

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way? That I am genuine and only want to make something that they’ll enjoy

Also I’m a lot weirder than I seem haha
