Formula Indie Sessions : Interview with Sheena-Rae

Introduction of the project
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest memory connected to music was when I was 8 years old and I went to the Sound Cube to record ‘When there was me and you’ from High School Musical, and they shot a little music video for me and everything. It was kinda cute, I think I lost the recording now though 🙁
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I’ve always loved singing from a young age, but my passion for writing and creating music started when I went to LCCM, and did a year’s music course there before I went to University. I lost myself in University a little with all the going out and partying, but quickly picked up writing music again during lockdown, and that’s where I created my first songs, into an EP.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I am currently working on new releases for 2026, with the first one out very soon (next month!) There are a few songs already done, and it will be put into an EP..
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before? I switch from more pop stuff to rap/hip hop styles depending on my mood. People tell me I should stick to one lane, but I enjoy doing both styles too much!
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music? I learned I need to go out and live life. That creates the best songs. Sometimes I’m so bored and want to write music, I just wish for someone to break my heart so I can write good music!!
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process? I have a portable recording studio which is doing bits for me right now! I can just record whenever, even if I get an idea at 12am. Additionally my laptop- I use Logic Pro and my microphone.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Sissy Ford, Justine Grove
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision? As I said earlier, my real life experiences help me write. It is so much easier to write something if you have experienced it in real time.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work? My main message in my upbeat songs is that you should feel like a main character in your life! With my more sad songs, I just want people to relate and not feel like they’re crazy for feeling the feelings they feel. You are not alone!
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Music is subjective; people may love it and people may hate it. Just stay true to yourself and what you want to say. Don’t shy away from saying what you want as those are your experiences!
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Glastonbury, Wireless, Reading! Honestly- I am happy with any stage. I love performing to new audiences no matter how big or small.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why? Pink Patheress, Ariana Grande.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music?(Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey? I would love one of my songs to chart. I also want to play festivals!
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I’m an ordinary girl, I have issues I battle with that no one sees, thats why I love to write music as its the easiest way to express myself. I am just a girl (albeit a sleepy one) with big dreams!
