Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Saddlemen

Saddlemen is a trio from Brooklyn, New York. Brothers Armando (bass, vocals) and Austin Gutierrez (drums), and Paul Hinkes (guitars, vocals), bring a high energy approach to the barroom stage that harkens back to classic rock and roll.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Mando: Dad is a drummer and I remember singing with his bands as a little kid and thinking this feels incredible!
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Paul: Live tracking. Like a lot of our favorite bands, we record drums, bass, guitars, and vocals usually all together in a live take. It’s time consuming but it helps us capture the feel we experience during a live show. This is so important for our recordings.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Mando: It influences everything! I’ve always loved how a song can tell a story or highlight someone else’s.I feel the more truth you can FEEL in a tune the more it resonates.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Mando: The power it has to connect us. At a concert, in record store, across the net, over a coffee, or pumping from a car stereo. The possibilities are endless!
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Troubadour Club in Los Angeles!
