Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Vertraumt

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
There is some photo of me when I was 3 or 4 years old in front of a self-constructed drumset in the kitchen of my grandma. So I guess I was somehow my whole life into rhythm and music.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I started to take drum lessons at the age of 7 and I would say I consider myself mainly as a drummer. The first band I played in was in school at the age of 12 and I never stopped beeing a drummer for different projects.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
My current project is called “Verträumt”; which is the german word for “dreamy”. I think I’m influenced by this wave of Do-It-Yourself kind of music and I just wanted to try making my own songs as a contrast to my role of being the drummer in the background for other bands. Artists like Goth Babe, Mac Demarco or Clairo influenced that process a lot, like not having an expensive software to create your own stuff. I still produce my ideas on Garage Band on my phone, haha.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Dreamy Bedroom Pop
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Don’t try too hard. In that way that I had to learn to put the creative process first and let it flow, instead of overthinking ideas while doing it. Easier said than done.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Garage Band on my phone and my acoustic guitar.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Going dark by Verzache
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
It influenced my music a lot. Creating a personal sound has helped me dealing with anxiety and negative thoughts. Even though “Verträumt” is about writing down dreams or creating a whole world of fictional moments, that I have wished they have happened to me. There is still some truth and real-life expierences in the lyrics.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Be yourself. You don’t have to try all the time to be better. And you are good enough as you are.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
To be patient.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Probably some KEXP or Audiotree live session.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
“doss”. He is such an out of the box rapper in Germany and his creative approach feels so unique to me.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
Honestly it’s all good right now. I don’t want to be famous with my project. But I’m definitely happy for every person who discovers my music and I would like to have a few more listeners and followers. I will probably do a few more live gigs too in 2026.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That I’m just like them. Everybody is special.
