Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with The Longshore Drifters

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My mother singing me Hank Williams whilst on a rocking chair on the porch. She was pregnant with me!
How did your passion for creating music begin?
Wooden spoons and saucepans!
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Platforming our continuing evolution as storytellers in the Country and Western genre.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
The Longshore Drifters breathe new life into old school country music. Harmony-rich duets and songcraft are at the heart of our retro-modern honky-tonk sound.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
How to actively listen, not just “hear” but listen.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Two linked and highly advanced interface machines, the first a hardware StrumPickPress Module, the second an Audio Vibration Box (aka Guitar and Voice!)
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Buck Owens and his Buckaroos
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
The chorus from one of our songs Eyes On The Prize sums this up best…
“Eyes on the Prize, Suffering just made me sing, Sucking up my pride, To shine on the shade, That’s thrown on me”
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Love, endure, value, appreciate, enjoy, live!
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
It can show the value of connections worthy of keeping.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Black Deer as sadly we never got to play it and like so many brilliant festivals doing their best to keep the quality and value for money high they’ve had to at least take a break. We’d love to see them back for 2027 (if not 2026!) and us performing there! Maybe we should start a Crowdfunder! (We also LOVE Red Rooster where we played to great acclaim in 2025).
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
That’s a very difficult question to answer! So many! For today, let’s say John Prine…
