Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with MiQael x Annie

MiQael released his debut album ”Let Me In” in 2024. In 2025 he released the EP ”Love & Death” featuring the singer Anniê. He’s currently working on a new EP.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I think it was my mum who used to play old 50’s and 60’s music in the car. I still love a lot of that music. Another strong memory is that they showed a news report that Green Day had performed completely nude or something. I thought the music was great and I started listening and searching for more heavy music after that.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I’ve always been a huge music fan. I started writing songs as soon as I got my first guitar, at around 9 years old.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I was in a band but we haven’t done anything since 2020. I started releasing songs on my own in 2021, but they hade more of a power-pop sound. In 2023 I had several songs that had more of a 90’s Misfits-sound (which I love) and decided to release them with me singing. Mostly to get my music out there.
I had 4 songs that had a bit of a different sound. I thought they were really good but I couldn’t do them justice with my voice. So I reached out to the artist Anniê (which I’ve discovered through her covers on YouTube) and, happily for me, she wanted to sing the songs.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Each release is a little bit different. The first album is a mix of punk, metal and rock. The EP is more pop-punk/metal, with the last song being a ballad.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I think I’m still writing the songs the same way as I’ve always done. But since getting my own recording equipments, I can hear the ideas a lot quicker.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I can almost write songs in my head at this point. But usually, I write the songs on the guitar and hum some melodies while I’m playing. I’ve always written the lyrics after I have the melodies.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I don’t listen to indie music that much, but listen to Anniê’s EP ”Chaos”. I thought that was really good.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Losing loved ones have influenced my lyrics. I wrote the song ”Love & Death” when I lost my beloved dog Roxy.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I hope they feel joy and comfort.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
That music is for everyone. You can be the worst musician and become a superstar and/or be a real virtuoso and no one even know you exist.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I would like to play live again, in any capacity. It would be really cool to perform at Sweden rock festival.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
There are too many. If I had to choose one, Freddie Mercury would be a dream.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I would like to find a singer which I could collaborate with. Write new music and play live.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I just hope more people will discover my music.
