Julian Jay Shore records under the band name GRINDTM. Star Destroyer is GRIND’s latest album.

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Hearing ‘we gotta get you a woman’ by a band called RUNT (todd rundgren).

How did your passion for creating music begin?

My mom was a piano player and piano teacher, and my older siblings played piano, drums and guitar. When I was a little kid, my mom would play barrelhouse boogie-woogie piano songs for me, with double octave bassline runs. It was electrifying.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Star Destroyer is GRIND’s 16th full length album, with a new one to follow in 2026.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

A timeless melodic soup of sparkling stars.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

The song is everything.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Notepad, voice recorder, piano and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Night Moves.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Frankly, its harder to find any way they have not. It’s writing music that moves me, and telling stories that mean something to me. That’s the best I can do, and every now and then I hope someone else is moved as well.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

Relatable joy, for various and varying reasons.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

It’s the world’s most magical drug.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Summerfest in 1980, opening for Squeeze on their Argybargy tour. Trying to find a time machine right now…

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Linda and Paul McCartney when they were working on the RAM album in the summer of 1970 before the weather turned cold. What could be more fun, than to be with them on the top of the mountain!
