Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Blindman

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
Listening to my parents records when I was a kid. Hall and Oates was a personal favorite. I used to think it was Hall and Notes! LOL!
How did your passion for creating music begin?
The first time I went to a hard core show in NYC and saw the band Sick Of It All. I knew right then and there I wanted to sing in a band that was saying something!
What’s the story behind your current music project?
Basically See With Your Heart. That’s ultimately the message. People are like, “Dude you are not blind.” Walk by faith not by sight. Blessed love everytime.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Conscious vibes reggae rock style.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
The Circle of Fifths. Up until that point I was a lyricist/singer. After that I became a songwriter/producer too.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
The piano, herbs and beer seem to work well for me. Joy and pain are also huge contributors.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Right now it has to be “Christmas Must Be Tonight” by The Band. My kids play it all the time. Not really an indie act but I didn’t hear this song until like 5 years ago so its still relatively new for me.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Of course. The music comes from living life.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Dear Lord anything. Just as long as they listen.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
People are complex at the same time. Just like the music and the people who create and listen to it.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
It used to be Bonaroo but I’d settle for Cali Roots.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Definitely Bob Marley because he is my all time favorite and I have been blessed to work with Don Kinsey who played with him and Peter.
