What is your earliest memory connected to music?

EatdaBreadKay:  I want to say I was probably about 6 or 7 if I can remember correctly.  I was at my dad’s house and he was in the kitchen cooking something, probably fried catfish like always lol but I’m the kitchen doing my little thing and there was this gray box on top of the table I never really knew what it was and before he started getting into his groove and started cooking he pressed a button on that box and it started making sounds and noises and when I heard that I kind of just stopped in my tracks and was like what the hell. I climbed on the chair and I’m just staring at this speaker just vibrating and doing its thing and I didn’t know what it was doing at the time but all I know is I was jackin it, I was feeling it.  So now I’m looking I’m listening and from there my ear for music my connection for music began.  And come to find out the song that was coming from it was Joe I wanna know.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I can say that i knew for sure that music was something that i was passionate about because of what came out of that speaker and how it sounded.  I was to young so i cant really describe specifically how i was feeling but i just knew i could get with this.  Back in the day my mom had this entertainment center with this computer back in the AOL days lol and my brother showed me that you could record on the computer with it.  He was into beats when he was younger and he used to do his thing on the low so he showed me how to record my voice.  So one day i decided to go savage with it lol and the this skinny microphone, i taped to the top of the entertainment center then i played the beat through the speaker and tried to rap into the microphone that was hanging from the entertainment center lol and from there man i been moving ever since. Any engineer today will tell you thats the worst way to record music but shit i was trying to figure it out ya know what im sayin lol

What’s the story behind your current music project?

Yeah, word.  So a lot of people do not know about this project yet. So you are going to hear it first.  Its called “ For Those Who Slept”  so like the story behind that is more about like beating all the odds.  Like in the sense of when you get written off, or bouncing back from a loss those type of things right.  For instance we all have moments were we feell like the world is against us right? No matter what your situation is,  my sound comes in to kind of like remind people and give people that feel like “you ALWAYS gonna be that nigga” or  “you ALWAYS gonna be that Queen” for the ladies of course no matter what your situation is, ya know what im sayin? You just got to remind yourself or for me personally remind Eatdabread that your energy is more powerful than what they trying to throw at you. Ya feel me? So thats pretty much where im goin with story behind the project.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I would describe it as more of a healing type of energy, my style is like speaks for those who have a hard time expressing themselves.  Some cant express themselves at all so im just giving people that relatable energy.  When you turn my music on you can hear my story and i want people to feel like i have the words to tell their story. I want to connect with people on that type of frequency.  The trap soul that is full of words of encouragement or puts out that need of uplifting, because although some of the scenarios in my music may not be relatable to all the message will be.  I want people to connect with the message. “Because we all need somebody to leeean on” lol and im that voice.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

Vulnerability.  The response is more authentic when you be vulnerable in the music.  The music resonates more when youre being vulnerable.  So i think vulnerability is somehing that i learned when it came to creating music, you know what im sayin. So i try to play into that more. I know its hard for people to open up, thats just not easy but you know you got to share your stories man.  Most of the time growing up, my brother, my sister and everybody yused to tell me “youhave a story to tell” but when i used to make music i used to be so closed in so my music came out regular.  Then one day my brother said to me “ nigga you aint saying nothing” so you know thats when i learned i had to be a little more vulnerable in my music to really connect, like a way to really tell my story so the people can feel where im coming from.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

Tools? Well shiit shout out to Tequila and Moet lol. Na but i think my essential tools would have to be my energy, my heart and most definitely my pain ya know.  I think theres a pain that plays a big part alongside my pro tools and a Newman Microphone lol

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Thats a tough one, because you cant just pick one ya know what im saying lol its like a playlist.  Especially likein the dark times that im going through like right now.  In my life there is many of them.  To name a few my playlist kind of looks like TSU Surf you know he talks about the streets so it gives me that sound like from a street perspective.  Nipsey is one of my favorites and Meek mill hes been one of my favortites since he stepped into the game.  You know Jay z AlBee Al ,Yung Blue, shout out Adele.  I like Adele a lot i aint even gon hold you.  Chris Brown Hes actually my favorite artist. I know they ain’t indie artist but honorable mentions lol

Right now im listening to Kocky Kai because again through my dark times hes really speaking.  Hes really speaking everything that im feeling right now, he has these two songs i listen to a lot.  One is called Dark Knights ft. Fridayy and Meek Mill and another one called Time to Heal.  Those two songs right there have been on repeat.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

It puts me in a specific frequency you know what im saying?  As far as like the vision man it gives me a better direction of knowing.  For instance like i know exactly who to work with to make my story come to life, whether its what engineer to go to, what producer to go to.  So my personal experiences is really giving me that blurprint to make my story come to life so yall can feel what im saying, feel where im coming from so yall can really feel the pains im expressing.  But dont get it twisted man i aint all about pain and hard times man you know im a LIT figure lol lol its just that music right there i got to get off my chest real quick so people could see a different side of EatDaBread.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

Well again, Just having like the strength and the mindset right? Mindset is most important, Lik having the mindset that you was made to beat the odds.  You know what im sayin?  You just got to find that way to  relight that fire you now.  You know that burning desire you get when you want to accomplish something or get something done.  I mean once you find that desire man, who knows where its going to take you.  So to just have your strength and that mindset that you was made to beat the odds.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Shit, i would say the most important lesson man is that to just stay Authentic you know, just stay true to yourself.  It dont matter what people think of you, you tell your story you speak your truth,  and also to just have compassion for the people who have the courage to tell their story.  Opening up is not easy, like letting the world in your business and letting them know like showing your pain or wearing your heart on your sleeve, like thats not easy, you know what im saying.  So yeah man just be authentic and having compassion for the people who you know, got something to say.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Yeah, yeah there is two.  I mean put me on any stage im gonna turn that thang up lol but as far as the main ones i want to be on the Grammy stage and the Super Bowl.  Those are the two main ones right there because when you touch those stages that means the world knows who you is.  That means you are really one of them.  That means you really on the grinding the hard wofrk, the late nights and the blood sweat and tears, pain and the ups and downs has paid off. It means you are really one of them.  So those two stages its what im shooting for you know i needs that lol

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I got a pass and a present, so past artist i would have to say is Michael Jackson.  I would say him because that man is a musical genius.  His musical genius is something that i would love to be a part of and witness you know what im saying.  Like the way he goes into depth of how he wants his performances and his music to come out and the way that it hits every beat, every tempo yea it would have to be Michael Jackson.  For the present though it would have to be Jay Z you know cause like his musical knowledge is something i would want to inherit and cherish you know what im sayin.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

I could just say my dream for the next chapter is to actualy finnaly do this thing for real, you know itsbeen a long time coming.  I made a promise to myself and my family that im going to take one final shot at this thing.  Imma put in some real effort to prove to myself that i can do this. Im trying to give my kids an dmy family something to be proud of ya know.  Instead of looking inthe news and Some Shit Been Goin Down, so just to give them something to be proud of.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

That i am unapologetic when it comes to being authentic man, i am who i am and i stand on that.  In my world i am God Hismelf and i say that respectfully.  So if yall can take that from me, if your rockin then im rolling man.  Love is Love straight like that.
