Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Royal Fia
Introduction of the project
Royal Fia Music is an independent label and creative platform founded by producer and artist Roy Alfia. Under this umbrella live three distinct but interconnected musical acts: Royal Fia (Pop / EDM), ORINOCO (organic electronic & downtempo), and Gilberto (bossa nova / cool jazz). Each project represents a different emotional and sonic language, yet they frequently intersect through remixes, collaborations, and shared musical DNA.
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
One of my earliest memories is realizing that music could completely change the atmosphere of a room. As a teenager in Tel Aviv, I was deeply influenced by club culture, DJs, and the emotional power of dance music — not just as entertainment, but as identity, freedom, and community. That feeling stayed with me and became the foundation of everything I create.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My passion began at the intersection of nightlife, emotion, and storytelling. In the late 1990s, my first song Lollipop unexpectedly became a major LGBT anthem in Israel, playing in clubs, bars, and Pride events nationwide. That experience taught me that music can belong to people — once it’s out there, it becomes part of their lives.
What’s the story behind your current music projects?
Rather than limiting myself to one sound, I chose to separate my musical identities into clear projects. Royal Fia is my Pop/EDM stage name, derived directly from my real name, Roy Alfia — it’s the most direct and energetic expression of who I am. ORINOCO explores warmer, organic, and atmospheric electronic music, while Gilberto leans into acoustic textures, bossa nova, and cool jazz. The projects often speak to each other, such as Royal Fia remixing ORINOCO’s Sail Away (Tu Gran Calor).
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Emotion-first. Whether it’s a club-driven Royal Fia track, an ORINOCO downtempo piece, or a Gilberto jazz-influenced song, the goal is always emotional clarity. I focus on melody, atmosphere, and feeling — genres are tools, not limits.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Longevity matters more than trends. I’ve learned to create music that I still stand behind years later. That mindset led me to slow down, refine my sound, and build projects with identity and intention rather than chasing what’s currently popular.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
My studio is a hybrid of digital precision and emotional instinct. DAWs, synths, and sound design tools are essential, but the most important “tool” is restraint — knowing when not to add more. Each project demands a different production language, and I respect that.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Living between cultures — Israel and Germany, underground and mainstream, club and home studio — deeply shaped my perspective. My music reflects identity, movement, longing, and resilience. These themes naturally surface across all my projects, even when the genres differ.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music?
All projects, releases, videos, and updates are centralized on the official label website:
https://www.royalfia.com/
From there, listeners can access Royal Fia, ORINOCO, and Gilberto on Spotify, YouTube, and other platforms.
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
To continue building a catalog that feels timeless and emotionally honest. I want each project under Royal Fia Music to grow organically, collaborate across styles, and reach listeners who value depth as much as sound.
