Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Hoshenko

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest memories related to music were in the 2000s with songs from Gorillaz first and second albums and their animated music videos that I had on a CD that my older cousin gave me. I watched them 500 times at least! I loved the atmosphere and vocals of what seemed like incredible music to me back then, and I still enjoy listening to these songs now.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
Oh, at first it was just a game. In 2013, I found a site where you could create music using samples called Audiotool. I didn’t have an account on this site for a long time – for more than a year or two, I just made music without any incentive to save it, simply because I enjoyed doing it.
Later, I created an account and started saving my work. Gently speaking, it’s probably better not to listen to what I created back then – but if you’re curious, you can still find those tracks on the site. From those first attempts, my passion for creating music was born, and it’s something I still do today. I don’t even think about stopping.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
When I started writing “BULLET SKIN”, I was obsessed with the idea of a post-apocalyptic and mystical world. I wanted to create something that would tell a technological horror story about a mystical creature, which I named after the song’s main title. Why is that? I simply like to describe my emotions and experiences in unusual terms. It may sound a bit exaggerated, but that’s exactly how I felt when I was making this song.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
A dark, aggressive, and emotional mix with gritty guitar sounds and wild synths.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Beauty lies in simplicity and that is the hardest thing to achieve.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
My DAW is Bitwig Studio, and my laptop. But I can’t live without my Squier Contemporary – it sounds truly unique thanks to its doubled single-coil pickups. As for synths, i really like to use vst Vital.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I’m listening to a few right now, but the ones I remember the most are Solstice and LORD KING MASSAI. These are very interesting authors with a completely unusual sound and style!
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I think that life events have made my sound more aggressive and melancholic, and that accurately describes what has been bothering me in life and how it has influenced my music.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
To be free in your choice, you are here to experience something, don`t be afraid.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
In life, creativity is a form of salvation. It doesn’t simply carry negative emotions into the future where they can return again – you write them down and move through them.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
To be honest, I’ve never thought much about performing on stage – not because I don’t want to, but because I’m afraid of it. If I were to do it, though, I’d want to share the experience with friends and my fans who feel the same way I do, on any stage.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Definitely Andrew Huang, Rob Scallon, or Damon Albarn! I feel a strong musical connection to these artists and would love to collaborate with them. Their creative flexibility is fascinating, and I think my style could bring even more interesting ideas and stories to the table!
