Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with willyb

Hello, my name is willyb, and I make electronic music. I have been making music for a few years, but only recently started putting my music out into the world. I am currently working on my first EP titled “Going Up”. I hope my music has the chance to reach the ears of millions 🙂
What is your earliest memory connected to music?
One of my earliest memories connected to music is listening to Darude Sandstorm in the basement of my childhood home with my brothers. That was my first introduction to electronic music and I immediately fell in love with it.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
My passion for creating music began from a very dark place in my life. I needed some way to express the emotional pain I was going through, and music became that outlet for me.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
My current music project is an unreleased EP I am working on called “Going Up”. It covers a wide range of electronic music, from dubstep and trap EDM to deep trance house. I want it to portray a wide range of electronic music that I believe is in my skillset. I plan on dropping the EP early 2026.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
I would describe my sound as bass heavy, groovy, and inspiring electronic music.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Don’t force it. Sometimes music needs to come out of you, not be pulled out.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I make all of my music using an AKAI MPK Midi keyboard and Logic Pro X. Those two things are vital to my process.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I am really loving what Hudson Freeman is doing right now. I believe he is paving the way for a new era of indie music.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Heartbreak, family struggles, loneliness, and love are key influences in my artistic vision. I also have a minor in philosophy, which I try to incorporate into my songs.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I hope my listeners can really appreciate the detail I put into my music. I treat each song as a journey. Building, taking away, and appreciating each sound for what it is is important to me. Also, I hope they make a stank face every once in a while
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Keep It Simple Stupid. The KISS lesson is very important to me as I find myself overcomplicating a process that should be just very simple and straightforward.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I would love to one day perform at Bonnaroo, but we will see about that…
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with Fred Again.. He is an absolute genius when it comes to electronic music. I feel like I would learn so much from him. He also seems like such a down-to-earth guy.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)
Here is a link to all of my other links where you can support!
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I would love to continue to grow my skills as a musician, reach more people, perform more shows, and get to know people in the community.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope listeners will discover that at the end of the day, I am just a guy following his dreams. If I can do it, so can they.
