Formula Indie Sessions : Interview with AFTERNOON IN THE PARK

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
When I was about 6 years old, I would steal my brother CDs and listen repeatedly to The Offspring – Americana while closing my eyes and feeling the guitars.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I’ve always been very sensitive to melodies, it fascinates and captivates my attention as if it was speaking to me on a cellular level.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I used to live in London, and with my friends we would spend our Sundays afternoon in Hyde Park, picnicking and writing songs, which is from these memories that the name « Afternoon In The Park » came from.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Feel-good indie rock, catchy choruses & punchy electric guitars. Come to the shows, bring your friends, get a drink & let’s go.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Be yourself and have fun, believe in what you’re doing. You don’t need to be pleasing everyone. If you have a good time, people have a good time and then you win. Just go for it.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
A guitar & a piano and my voice (smile)
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
I love so many. But recently: Måneskin, The Strokes, Pan Arcadia, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Inhaler, Dua Lipa, The GOA Express,…
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I love history, traveling, learning about new cultures, reading,… It all blends in and becomes new inspiration. Also, when I hear guitars in a live performance, it just feels so real and unforgettable.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
Live free, have fun, hope, love and laugh a lot, give your best always.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
To be yourself no matter where you are. Everywhere is home if only you feel like home in your heart.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
Red rocks, Colorado & Glastonbury Festival.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Such a hard question. But I’ll say: Prince. Just because he was an oracle, a true visionary and his abilities are still unmatched.
