Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Ãngel

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I think it would be singing with my brother when I was a child. We used to perform little shows for our family, dancing and singing together.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
It actually arrived quite recently. When I was a teenager, I tried to write music, but I never liked what I did and it was never serious. But later, about three years ago, I started to feel music as energy, both positivity and negativity. I felt something very strong.
One day in August, I was at my grandparents’ house in Portugal. I was in bed at night thinking about my grandfather, and suddenly a Spanish song came to my mind. I spent the rest of the summer writing it, and then I wrote a second one, a third one, and so on.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
With my first EP, I feel like I closed the first chapter of my musical journey.
Now I want to start creating something that feels more like me, especially with Portuguese influences. I was just beginning back then but today I want a project that truly represents who I am.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
I would say my music is sincere and authentic. I always put my heart into my songs and I talk about things I actually live. I try to bring depth and reflection into my lyrics.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music? You can focus on perfection, but you don’t need to be perfect.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I’m open to everything, so the essential thing is simply feeling connected to the song while I’m creating it.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
At the moment, I don’t have any favorite indie artists, but I would love to discover more from this genre as a fan and music lover.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
For me, it’s very important to talk about my own life in my lyrics. I can’t invent things I haven’t lived or seen. My songs always come from true experiences. I have to be authentic in my writing, so my life influences my music a lot.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
There are different emotions I want to share, depending on each song. Every time, I try to give a new energy and offer a different point of view on a situation.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Right now, I don’t think I can fully answer this question because I’m still at the beginning of my journey. Maybe in a few years I’ll have a clear answer, but at the moment I feel like it’s too early to say.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
If one day I could sing at the Estádio da Luz in Lisboa, it would be one of the most extraordinary things in the world for me, it would mean so much.
As for festivals, I would say Zevra in Cullera (Valencia). When I went there in 2024, I loved it and thought, “I hope that one day I can do it too.”
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Honestly, I have a long list of artists I would love to work with, but they are very important artists, and I know I still need to work a lot to deserve the chance to collaborate with them one day.
But if I have to mention some, I would say Feid, Sebastián Yatra, Bad Bunny, Emilia and from Portugal, artists like Ivandro, Van Zee, Wet Bed Gang, and Domingues, because I enjoy listening to them a lot.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I think I want to work on myself, grow, and continue discovering who I am and what I want to express. Little by little, I want to keep building my own identity and connect with more people through my music.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
Little by little, they will discover my evolution both musically and personally. Every day I feel more capable of sharing parts of my life, showing more of my abilities, opening my heart, and trying new things. I also want to explore different musical genres and build a clearer artistic identity.
