Formula Indie Sessions – Interview with Rytmespor Revolusjon

Rytme_compressed

Rytmespor Revolusjon was started after being inspired by Harry Waffles. The goal is to bring rhythms and rhymes to children – in a way that adults can enjoy too. Everything created is inspired by kids; they get to be part of the creative process and help create both beats and lyrics. The project is all about play, learning, and joy through music.

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

  • The LP player in my parents’ living room. How the sound that came out created pictures in my head, just like a movie for the blind.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

  • It all started with my good friend Haakon when we formed the hip-hop group Grunnmuren. The joy of creating something, the sense of unity, and having a shared goal.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

  • The project is about letting kids be part of the creative phase. All the lyrics are inspired by children – something they say, something they feel, or texts they’ve written themselves. This way, they learn rhythm, rhyme, and collaboration. It brings a unique energy to the music.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

  • Solid, simple rhythms that build a playful foundation. The result is often experimental, inspired by hip-hop, techno, house, and phonk – but always with a child-friendly and positive core.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

  • Everything is allowed. In the 90s, there were strict rules for how to make hip-hop/rap, but today it seems like anything goes.

Which tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

  • FL Studio, Technics 1210, Pioneer DJM, and Rode mic.

Which indie artist or song do you especially like right now?

  • I listen a lot to lofi playlists from Starbust Records, Chill Select, and Stlkmusic. When the day is over and I’ve put the Rytmespor Revolusjon project aside, I like to explore the more mature and experimental side of music as DJ Virvelvind – often lofi beats, phonk, or trap.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

  • My experiences have taught me how important play, safety, and community are. That has shaped the entire project — the music should create joy, bring people together, and feel inclusive for both kids and adults.

What feelings or messages do you hope listeners take away from your music?

  • When you hear Rytmespor Revolusjon, I hope you feel happy and let yourself loose in dance or play.

What is the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

  • That music can evoke an incredible range of emotions in people, something that never stops surprising me.

What is a dream venue or festival you’d love to perform at?

  • I prefer playing at small, intimate parties, but I wouldn’t say no to Glastonbury Festival or Primavera Sound.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

  • As Rytmespor Revolusjon, I love collaborating with Harry Waffles – he brings enormous energy and joy to the productions.
At the same time, I have a creative side project as DJ Virvelvind, and my dream collaboration there would be Evidence from Dilated Peoples, because he has one of the most iconic voices and a perfect slow-flow.

Looking to the future – what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

  • That the latest release Defenders of Awesome is well received and gets lots of streams. It’s all about snowboarding — the kids and I can’t wait to ride powder!

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

  • That the music comes from a place of smiles, warmth, and genuine joy.
