Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with The Busker

the busker

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Since we are a three piece band, we definitely have separate experiences  connected to music.

Sean; I remember had gone through a terrible period in my life where I physically  couldn’t partake much in social activity which got me to buy my first saxophone.  Spent every waking moment perfecting my playing until I got better. Without my  saxophone during that time I would have never managed to face the world again.

Dav; Music was always playing in our household, and it was rather bound to  happen, having a guitar laying in the corner of our living room.

Jean; My earliest moment was listening to Thriller by Michael Jackson and  watching MTV 24/7 in our household.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Very much like the way we all found our way into music, creating original music  was the epitome of us trying to find our identity through music.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

The band ‘The Busker’ was established in 2012 with Jean Paul and the previous  singer wanting to pay tribute to the musician in the street, performing music for  the love of it. Now it still holds the same value of creating and making music as  the means and the end.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music  before?

Each and every one of us brings in a different flavour to the sound, which might  be our identity in itself. Having a saxophonist within the main band line up, is  surely what people can relate back to us. Dynamic, lyric focused, attention to  detail music finished off with the sparkle of a saxophone

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?  Along the way we did learn that making music is about the listener, however we

are surely the first listeners, if it doesn’t completely flow to us, then we might  need to change and alter till we perfect the message we wish to portray in the  clearest of ways

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?  Surely most recent years, we have been developing ideas firstly by compiling

ideas on our Digital Audio Workstation, using our laptop and vocal inspirations.  However some songs do require a more traditional instrument and vocal  performance to kick start the process.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Once again we all have to reply differently; Sean – Jesse Gold , Dav.Jr – Aubrey  Bugg, Jean – The Neighbourhood

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?  Life in general will always be the core inspiration for art, you have to experience

life to write about life. We’ve all had our moments, and we’ve all had instances  where music pulled us out of dark times. However we always have to remember to  also write and sing about the bright and happy times.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?  Our music tends to deliver a feel good factor, but a deeper dive into the lyrics we

always have something to say, at times it is personal and at times it is critical of  the system.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

The biggest mistake one can make is to expect to stay the same, like the same  things and feel the same way.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

Currently we are thorn between Wembley stadium and NPR Tiny Desk Sessions

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?  Michael Jackson will be the one for sure!

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)  We are on all platforms,Spotify, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, X, Youtube

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical  journey?

We are always making plans and finding new ways how keep our project  interesting. What we definitely have been and will continue to work on is writing  and releasing more music, trusting it finds its crowd to connect with people

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?  If there is one thing we would love to leave behind, is people knowing we love

doing music for the sake of music, sharing our craft and having our music finding  its home.
