Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with Hattie

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I’ve always been involved with music! My first EVER memory of music was performing in my school play at age 4!
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I was always listening to music and started off in musical theatre, which definitely helped me develop my vocals and other skills. It took awhile for me to decide that I wanted to start being myself and making my own songs but once I did, I never looked back and have now written over 2000 songs (that will never be released haha).
What’s the story behind your current music project?
I think my current project is mainly just having fun. My lyrics are usually silly and cheeky and the music behind it usually reflects the same vibe. I used to take everything so seriously and it really sucked the fun out of making music for me so I’m so glad I’m finally in a stage that means I can create awesome songs that are also a little bit silly.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Cheeky pop lyrics mixed with RNB beats!
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Don’t force it. Sometimes music doesn’t happen when you sit down to create, and that’s okay! Never force lyrics or music to come out of you, because you’ll end up hating it!
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Logic is my go-to for everything digital, and I’m a bass player so my music usually revolves around a bassline i’ve written!
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
It’s not out yet but: BY Now by Loula. I adore this song and it comes out on the 21st.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I’ve been through a lot in life, and it’s definitely changed who I am as a person. I sort of use my music as a therapy and love to put my emotions into song instead of spiralling by myself haha.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I want them to enjoy the music I make and I want them to feel the same feelings I have in each song.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Don’t write songs about the boy you like and post it online. They will find it. Don’t do it.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I’d love to play at the Thekla in Bristol!
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
DOJA CAT! Or SZA, both would be insane since im such a major fan of both of them!
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I just want to make more music, play some gigs and meet more amazing people who like the same things I do!
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That im actually really awkward and brutally honest in my lyrics, so everything I am saying is probably a real experience/person!
