Formula Indie Sessions : Interview with Bucado Ip

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
I specifically remember turning on the radio in my room when I was about 10. I didn’t have a phone or anything, but I really wanted to listen to music. I was switching through the channels when “God’s Plan” by Drake came on. That was when I really started getting into hiphop.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
I was in my room at like 1 a.m., and I had an app on my phone that let you record yourself on top of beats. I recorded two freestyles, and the next morning I woke up, listened to them, and at the time I thought it was the greatest thing ever.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
My latest stuff really just reflects the strength and confidence I’ve built. My earlier releases focused a lot on being rejected, but now it’s more about rising above that and just doing your own thing.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
I’d describe it as energetic but thoughtful at the same time. But of course I’ve also got some songs that go in a completely different direction, since I enjoy experimenting.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I’d say that in the beginning, when I was learning how to record, discovering how to really project my voice in different ways improved my sound a lot and kept me from staying stagnant.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
I currently mix and master in FL Studio, and switching to it really refined the quality of my music. Not to say my earlier songs were worse on a fundamental level, but there’s a big difference between having a good creative idea and actually being able to execute it.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
The indie artists I listen to are mostly German, because my favorite English musicians are all signed. So the indie ones I listen to are Cro and Nullsechsroy.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
I feel like my personal struggles, especially in my early teen years, impacted my music a lot. I don’t try to depict my experiences in a negative way though. I try to show what I’ve learned and overcome.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
I want people to feel uplifted but also understood when they listen to my music. And if it’s one of my faster tracks, I just want them to dance and vibe out to it.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
It’s taught me that there’s always a lesson to be learned from every life experience, good and bad. Music really helped me reflect.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
I’ve never really thought about a specific location, but to me Rolling Loud is like the epitome of performing live, so that’s my pick.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
I think collaborating with Tate McRae would be pretty cool because I think our vibe is pretty similar.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music?
You can find me on Spotify, IG, Amazon Music, and almost everywhere else under Bucado Ip.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
I just want to continue having fun and expanding my catalog. I’m planning on doing more shows and giving back to the people who support me.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
I hope they discover that we all have similar struggles and that we can all make it together. My music reflects reality and dreams, and I hope my listeners find the strength to accomplish whatever they want to do. I just tell my story so others can create their own.
