What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My mom teaching piano from the house, she had about twenty students at the time, and I have early memories of my dad showing me instruments as well!

How did your passion for creating music begin?

I started coming up with my own ideas on the piano and realised I enjoyed that a lot more than learning other people’s songs!

What’s the story behind your current music project?

The story behind Tim Gambles is me trying to find balance in a very unbalanced world through music.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I always struggle with this question, but I’d say dramatic, it has pop sensibilities but it is more on the side of an alternative rock style. I draw influence from all kinds of music so I try not to be too boxed in by that.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

Collaboration is massive in songwriting and that sometimes you need to not be too precious about an idea because it might stop you from letting in someone else’s idea that could make it better. But also knowing when to put your foot down and sticking to your guns, it’s a fine line.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

All of them, I want everything!

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Decrepit Youths!

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I write about everything I see, it doesn’t just have to be things that I’ve gone through, but also things that I’ve witnessed or been told by other people and I take everything into account. All my music comes back to an attempt to balance an unbalanced world.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

That you can’t balance an unbalanced world no matter how hard you try… And also that they should question things in a healthy way, they should reconnect with nature, and they should be their weird selves because it doesn’t matter!

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

It doesn’t matter how good you think you are, someone will still ask you to play ‘Wonderwall’…

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I’d love to play at the Piece Hall in Halifax, the courtyard they use from shows sometimes looks really cool. Korn and Tom Odell played there not that long ago!

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Chris Cornell in terms of the past, someone who’s not around anymore, but someone who is still around, Charlie Puth! He’s got a crazy ear for music and does crazy good production work with artists.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

The next thing I would like to do is play in front of as many people as possible, while releasing music and videos!

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

That’s for them to discover!
