Formula Indie Sessions : Interview with Rachel Ritchie

rachel ritchie

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

My earliest memory connected to my music is pretending I was in front of a big live audiene while performing Celine Dion songs to my siblings.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

Music has always been my escape from reality. Growing up my life wasn’t always easy so music really spoke to me especially in those tough times.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

The story behind “How to have fun” my latest release is very self explainitory. Life has become such a routine that sometimes I forget to have fun and I know that I’m not the only one who feels that way, especially in this ecomy we are always working and tend forget the fun stuff at times.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I would basically say pretend a singer from every genre got together and had a baby. I only say this because I truly don’t know who I sound like and what genre I sing the best. Growing up I  listened to everything so my influence is a blend. Just as an example, my dad was in a rocknroll band, me and my brother listened to a lot of rap, and I was even in the church choir for a short period of time.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

I’ve leared that it’s okay to go against the grain and expeirement, just create music that comes from the heart no matter what.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

The only thing I need to create my music is my cell phone so I can voice note my ideas as soon as they come to me, otherewise they will get lost in time and forgotten.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

There is a local artist named Ella Mnop, she is a 13 year old girl who is really talented and going plces in life.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

100% absolutely, there is a little message inside every song about me or an experince I have witnessed. However, I try to make my songs relatable to the listener at the same token.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I am hoping Positivity is the ultimate takeaway from my viewers, I hope they feel a sense of hope and self-love when listening to my music.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Music has taught me that it isn’t always the way you plan it, things don’t always work out the way you want them to but as long as you keep going you will see improvement and results will come but in their own time.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

I’ve always wanted to visit New York city so I would say maybe radio city music hall or the Grade Ole Opry in Nashville.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Actually, I have always been a big fan of Billy Joel so I would say him because hes the first person that came to mind.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

As simple as it sounds my ultimate dream is to land a big sync deal, one that I can be proud of. I feel like my music tells a story and it would be awesome to see it be a part of a cimematic moment where viewers can hear and see an emotion at the same time.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I hope listeners discover that I am truly authentic and true to myself, that I don’t try to be someone else just because I know it might land me more streams.
