Formula Indie Sessions _ Interview with 16 Bits

16 bits

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

well literally goes all the way back to highschool, i have been friends with each member of the band since then, i connected to music through them. Before that i watched mtv and also heard my older brother play guitar but never though of being involved in music.

How did your passion for creating music begin?

when i meet my friends(the band) and hanging out alot while playing videogames, i started to socialize more, before that i was really insecure and shy, but connecting with them and listening to music together really fell deep on my hearth and inspire me to do music, all of this was years before forming the band.

What’s the story behind your current music project?

well as i already mentioned before, since highschool i knew them, we where friends only playing videogames and making covers of our favorites guitar hero songs, with time they got into music with other projects, years later i reunited with them, i was on other groups before but with them, when we finally did a serious project together, feel really organic, natural, like breathing, i was really happy, we all where, thats the magic of this band, that it was born from genuine friendship.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

16 bits(my project) is a mix of love for videogames and jrock, punk and emomidwest, a strange party of all of this things together.

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

perseverance, thats what you learned the most, from where we are(peru) making art is extremely difficult because of the low levels of education that the people of our country has, and the completely abandonment of the government that decides that culture is irrelevant, that changed the way our music is made forever, is more of an act of rebellion than anything else.

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

well, guitars, amps, amplitude software and anything friends can help us lend to us so we can create, we always have been really limited on resources but we try to make up for it, with friends, and adapting to situations.

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

Right now im listening to a lot of Peruvian new artists like mimo(mi mochila huele a s), 380, maldito antisocial, claustrofobicos, mi mejor amigo scott. All of these artists have been growing alot and it has been really pleasant to hear new music from here with such quality.

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

Of course, the music we make with the band is literally our life experiences, past and present. We always write about our day by day, the good, the bad, and I love that about us, because it makes it real for us and fans.

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

love, perseverance, regret and fulfillment. We really try to show that we are humans and really part of that is pull forward, fall from grace and get right up and continue, most of all that they can feel that through the worst, they are not alone.

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

Again, perseverance, to not surrender and keep going even if you feel that things don’t work, just to keep moving.

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

reading festival, most of all, because there was a band that really inspired us, nirvana.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Kurt Cobain, maybe because we really identified with his struggles, his way of thinking and most of all, the way he did and viewed music. I would really have liked to see him live and perform.

Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website,Spotify, IG, links)

they can follow us on instagram at @16bits__ and also listen to our music on Spotify, Youtube, and all platforms.

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

the next chapter is to keep doing music, to travel to Mexico to do a tour and if the god of rock lets us tour to other countries, I hope life keeps pushing us forward.

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

the love we have for videogames, that they can feel that we are with them at the worst and best of times, and that our music is an emotional journey, that’s what they will find on each album.
