the crawling eye

The Crawling Eye is a three piece band formed in 2018. They are signed to SWND Records. They consider themselves eclectic in relation to style and influences and record whatever feels right to them.

The band is made up of

Regan Meredith – Vocals

Matthew Witherstone – Guitar, Keyboards, Harmonica and Vocals

Sean Davies – Bass and Vocals

Production and additional instruments by Frank Naughton

What is your earliest memory connected to music?

Either hearing the thunderous drum roll on Hound Dog by Elvis or listening to my mother’s Motown 45s, particularly the Supremes and the Isely Brothers

How did your passion for creating music begin?

From quite an early age really – as soon as I could play I was interested in writing my own songs. I used to record tracks on an old fostex machine in my bedroom with friends

What’s the story behind your current music project?

The Crawling Eye was formed in 2018. I had been in a band with Simon Thomas in the 90’s, neither of us had done anything musical for quite sometime and we decided it would be nice to put an EP together. This was well recieved and led to us being signed to SWND records

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

We regard ourselves as an electic band – essentially we record whatever we want, but I suppose Indie would be the most accurate way to describe us

What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?

Phil Vat of Shiny Vinyl records told me that it’s all about legacy, being proud of what you have recorded and geeting it out is the main thing. Don’t worry about how many people listen to it, but be proud of your product

What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?

I usually write on guitar and keyboards – I’m extremely lucky to have Frank Naughton of Ty Drwg studios, Grangetown – to record and produce the music

Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?

I tend to listen to older music – Bowie, The Clash The Beatles and The Stones

How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?

I tend to write about personal expeiences but not in an overtly obvious way – I like to leave songs open to the listeners interpretation

What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?

I just hope they enjoy the music for what it is, It’s nice when a song resonates or invokes a certain emotion, but ultimately I just want people to enjoy listening

What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?

To be honest and true to your artistic vision – Frank always says that if you genuinely like the song that you have written then so will somebody else

What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?

The Crawling Eye is currently a studio only project – we have played live in the past and personally I would like to play one of the smaller UK festivals

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

I absolutley love Joe Strummers voice – I think he could sing a telephone directory and it would sound amazing

Where can our listeners follow and support your music?

Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?

Just to keep doing what we do and hopefully generate a bigger audience

What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?

I just hope that they enjoy our music
