Formula Indie Sessions Interview with Nu Mode

What is your earliest memory connected to music?
My earliest music memory is listening to CDs my mom played around the house or tuning into the radio during car rides with my brothers.
How did your passion for creating music begin?
In my youth, my two older brothers were always creating their own songs and music videos and I would help shoot videos for them on a Blackberry Bold and never once thought about making my own music until years later, around 2017 when my brother got into producing his own beats and recording to them, he made a beat that instantly stood out to me and the following day I wrote my first song “Man of the hour” on the bus ride home from school, came home and asked him “can I try something on that beat” and I instantly fell in love with creating music ever since then.
What’s the story behind your current music project?
What ‘Nuisance’ means to me is over coming those feelings of being less than what you are. ‘Nuisance’ is a collection of songs that are all their own time capsules of moments facing some of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced in my life.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Moody alternative rock/electronic music with themes of introspection and internal chaos.
What is one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
Being present and allowing creation to flow through me instead of trying to force an outcome or an idea. I see all ideas as otherworldly knowledge and I am simply a channel to bring the non-physical into the physical.
What tools, instruments, or software are essential in your creative process?
Definitely need a microphone, any software to record on works for me but I prefer to use Logic Pro X. And for the production side of things, a guitar, a bass guitar, & my drum kits. Oh and water to stay hydrated.
Which indie artist or song are you loving right now?
Mk.gee.
How have your personal experiences influenced your music and artistic vision?
Life & art to me are like light & darkness, one cannot exist without the other. Songs flow to me simply by observing life and listening to the language of the world which is not only spoken language but experience.
What emotions or messages do you hope listeners take from your work?
That you are source, you are infinity wrapped in flesh, you are pure consciousness. It’s up to you to break free from the limitations of your body & the world. Your state of being determines everything.
What’s the most important lesson music has taught you so far?
Don’t settle for mediocrity, embrace the unknown, because it is within that space where true growth and mastery is found.
What is a dream venue or festival you would love to perform at?
The Rogers Centre in my birth city of Toronto.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
XXXTENTACION or The Weeknd. Not only are they both two of my biggest influences musically but they convey emotion and feelings so well into their craft that puts you more on a journey than just listening.
Where can our listeners follow and support your music? (Website, Spotify, IG, links)
@Nu Mode on all streaming platforms.
@Nuumode on Instagram.
Looking toward the future, what’s your dream for the next chapter of your musical journey?
Performing in new countries, getting up close and personal with my audience to genuinely connect and share experiences.
What do you hope listeners will discover about you along the way?
That I am an avid nature enthusiast.
